2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

So, with the same thing going on with the Chiefs I want to ask you Royals fans. I browse this thread from time to time, as I'm a big baseball guy, but a Cards fan. I don't post much in here, just like to see you guys talking baseball.

Anyway, you guys keep talking about how the Royals have a ton of talent, yet they are the worst team record wise, in the AL. I will admit that I don't keep up with the Royals religiously, but if you have all this talent, whats going on? I know the pitching has been pretty shitty, but is it possible that you are overestimating the talent level?

I'm not trying to start a war, just curious as I feel the same thing might be going on with the Chiefs roster, myself included.

Well, Francour and Hosmer have performed below expectations. They have alot of good hitters but so far few true clutch hitters.

They have had a ton of injuries, especially pitchers, they didnt get cain and Perez back until a month ago.

Not trying to make excuses, but all that is probably good for 5 or 10 losses at least.

But yea, our starting pitching absolutely blows.

Nope our roster is ****ing stacked at everyday players. And they are all young. Part of them being young is a little bit of the problem. But the main reason the Royals suck this year is because we have no starting pitching at all. When your best two pitchers right now is Bruce Chen and Luke Hocheaver. You are ****ed. They are #4 and #5 guys at best.

I'd say you have some talent, but it's pretty unproven. It's not likely that they are all going to get to where you guys seem to think.

But you definitely need some pitching.

And we don't need Cardinal fans telling us about our team either.

OMG, THAT'S it! Thank you so much...we've been scratching our collective heads for the whole season trying to figure out why it just isn't clicking this year.

I'll send an e-mail off to GMDM.

It's about time we replaced that no talent slapdick with someone that can get it done at that position. This is the move we've all been waiting for. Let the winning commence.

I think you could easily argue we have the best SS and best LF. When Yuni isn't playing our infield D is one of the best in baseball. However they still make mental mistakes but that should improve with time. Cain and Perez especially are potential perennial all stars. Perez is a rare defensive catcher with offensive skills as well. Basically it's all about our starting pitching (not bullpen) and lack of it. We lost our two best to TJ surgery and Chen looks to finally be done.

And of course some of our talent is unproven. How can rookies and/or second year guys be proven?

Question:

Why do we keep running Dyson out to center and putting Cain in right? What's that you say? Because Frenchy isn't worth a bag of puppy nuts?

Well, good sir, I have an answer for that conundrum! His name is Will Myers, and his current residence is in Omaha, Nebraska. Look him up sometime!
