Hank's character arc turned him into a better person. He's not the assistant football coach blowhard he was in season one. By no means was he perfect, or even a great guy, but he deserved better than his ultimate fate.

Yeah. Steve is the most tragic of the deaths wrought by Walt.

If he'd have gone through legitimate channels, then maybe not. He brought this on himself by cutting corners... and in doing so, found himself unprepared for an ambush.

I felt a little badly about his death... but all he had to do was get the **** over his ego being raped by Walt and walk away. He had no legit evidence, yet just couldn't back the **** off.

Tactical blunders are irrelevant to whether he deserved to die. Would you back off if you were in his position?

His ego/pride definitely made his grave. Had he gone through the DEA, they could have built a case from there. Though obviously it would take away from the show. Vince had no choice but to make him go full meathead, super-tv cop. As a result, I hated him.

I would have pretty well believed that Walt was just some schmuck chemist that got wrapped up into making meth to provide for his family (with the medical bills ready to crush them)... That he got in with some bad people, and if he wasn't still working with them? Then shovel his role under the carpet for the good of the WHOLE family.

That's the kind of move Skyler would make, not Hank. Hank had to know that Walt was a lot worse than what you just described. If he didn't know it when he first realized Walt was Heisenberg, he knew it after Jesse told him the whole story, which included Walt being an accessory to multiple murders. No decent cop would sweep that under the rug just to protect his brother-in-law.

Hank's decision not to let Walt get away with his numerous crimes doesn't mean Hank deserved to die and that it's fault that he got killed. It's Walt's fault.

Disagree. Hank could have secured the proper channels to go after Walt, if all he was really concerned about was Walt going to jail. The odds seem better that he wouldn't get killed. His pride, job, etc. got the better of him and that, ultimately, got him killed.

I guess we disagree on what the proper penalty is for a tactical mistake. In my mind, the death penalty is a little severe.

That's what Hank was guilty of: a tactical mistake. That pales in comparison to the deliberate murders arranged by Walt. How anyone can root for Walt just astounds me.

This. He wants his money back. When he shoots them all down, he goes in and finds Jesse strapped to the tether like a dog. He sets him free and they both walk off in different directions.

For me that went right out the door when Walt told Jesse that he watched Jane die.

One way or another, both can't live throught this. If they do, I'll be disappointed. At this point, there is just too much bad blood between them.
