Not a rumor: Ryan Lilja may be returning to KC

EDIT: No longer a rumor. The Chiefs have reportedly reached out to Lilja.

We're three deep at guard, however. If this is true, I think this portends ugly things for Rodney Hudson's recovery. I think the Chiefs may be angling for a patch at center.

The Return of Ryan Lilja?
posted by The Gentry
Apr 06, 2013

I've never had inside information before, but today I do. It's weird - and it was from out of the blue today - but I have it on good authority that Ryan Lilja is negotiating with the Chiefs to return for the 2013 season. That isn't to say that he would make the cut for the active roster after training camp, but I'd say he's got a damn good shot at that. What would you think to have Lilja back in the fold?

BTW, there is a long list of QBs who fit my hypothesis, but the only thing bothering to list them will do is give you a launching pad for applying hindsight and arguing about whether or not the list proves anything. Trent Green is a representative member of the list though, as I mentioned earlier. Do you agree that his window was open beyond age 33?
No, I don't agree with that.

The Chiefs made the playoffs once in Trent Greens 5 full seasons in KC...a d again, Trent did things from a quarterback perspective that Alex has never done and likely will never do.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE it if he were to begin to trust his tools and begin to attack with the ball to areas past 15 yards...but I just don't see it happening.

If we got "Trent Green" out of the trade, it was an outstanding value trade.

What a crock of shit. Give Trent the defense that Alex had in San Fran, and he wins the Super Bowl in '03 at the least.

When has Trent Green done this in the playoffs?

Edit: He still hasn't done this. And he's never done anything as impressive, and never will.

8 years as the starter in SF...2 playoff games.

NOBODY is trying to take that NO game away from him...if we can get that level if play from him on a consistent level over the next 5 or 6 years, I'll be glad we made the trade...so long as Geno Smith flames out.

If these guys chose Alex Smith over Geno Smith, there are no excuses...Due to the age of the two players, Alex needs to be leaps and bounds better than Geno Smith.

Get the **** out of here. Like I said, give Trent that Niner defense and he's a world champ at least once, maybe twice. Those '03 and '04 offenses were THAT good, but the defenses from those teams were THAT bad.

I won't even get started on all the ****ing Morton/Boerigter drops Trent had in that '03 game, either.

If Tony G doesn't get a bs pushing off call and Priest Holmes doesn't fumble, we beat Indy.

You mean that SF defense that gave up 32 points?

Trent Green did a lot of things that Alex Smith isn't great at, but dismissing this is just pure bullshit.
