Nigerian attempts to defraud me on Ebay
I wonder how many people have fallen for this......

I was selling a used tablet PC on Ebay, the auction ended today. I clearly stated in the auction that I would ship to the US and Canada only. The winning bidder is from the UK.

I was actually considering shipping it anyway, and just sending an invoice reflecting the change in shipping costs. I got the following email and decided against it.

Hello seller, i was the lucky winning bidder of your item listed on ebay and i will like to purchase it from you and get it shipped to my fiancee working in the Nigeria Embassy as a suprise Birthday gift for her and i have transfered the payment from my account to your through paypal, never mind about the shipping i have added enough additional shipping cost and insurance cost to the payment being an International shipping through Global Mail Express Service (EMS) coz i like this item with it's perfect discription and i really need it for my fiancee and i think we can make this a nice and fast deal, you can check out my perfect feedback on ebay and you see how reliable i am to deal with. You will be contacted by paypal with the payment confirmation mail as soon as the payment i send has been confirmed and approved so just get back to me as soon as you receive the payment confirmation mail from paypal so that i will know the status of the payment coz the money has been deducted from my account immediately i made the payment. My fiancee's address in Nigeria (23402) where i want the item to be shipped to has been provided for paypal during the payment, so it will be included in the payment confirmation mail you are going to received from Paypal. proper feedback will be left as soon as this transaction is concluded.

As if that wasn't enough, I received a fake Paypal e-mail claiming that the "buyer" has sent funds (an extra $200 to boot) but that it wouldn't clear my account until I provided a tracking number. I forwarded the e-mail on to Paypal who determined it to be fake immediately.

Next, it's on to Ebay customer service, who of course, you can't reach by phone - to get the fees associated with the auction refunded and the item relisted.

What a pain in the ass. At least I'm not out the computer and the cash......

Damn Nigerians.....

More likely that several members of this scam group each created accounts and "bought" and "sold" things to each other to make their accounts look legit. So in a roundabout way, yes.
