Berkshire Hathaway and Quicken to payout $1 billion for perfect NCAA bracket

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Dan Gilbert's Quicken Loans are partnering to award anyone who fills out a perfect 2014 Men's NCAA Tournament bracket with $1 billion.

The prize will be paid out in 40 annual installments of $25 million. If there's more than one winner they'll have to share. The winner or winners can also take or split up an immediate $500 million lump sum payment.

Is there a limit on the number of entries? I may have to rent a supercomputer, but I can win this.

Free registration for the 'Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket' will begin on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 and runs until Wednesday, March 19th, 2014. All participants registering prior to the tournament selection process will receive their brackets the evening of Sunday, March 16, 2014 when entrants can begin filling out their bracket.

To be eligible for the $1 billion grand prize, entrants must be 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen and one of the first 10 million to register for the contest. At its sole discretion, Quicken Loans reserves the right and option to expand the entry pool to a larger number of entrants. Submissions will be limited to a total of one per household. All qualified entrants are eligible for the 20 1st prize awards of $100,000 for selecting the competition's top 20 most accurate "imperfect" brackets.

In 1993 I almost accomplished this. I had EVERY single game correct until the two semis and I managed to get BOTH of those wrong. Our bracket scoring was so heavily weighted to the semis and final game that I ended up coming in 2nd in points.

You had 12-George wash and 7- western Kentucky in the sweet 16? You picked the 2-15 upset Santa Clara over Arizona? GTFO

Supercomputer indeed.

There are something like 10 quintillion possible brackets in any given season.

True story! Most of my upset picks were complete random bullshit luck, I'll freely admit that. I am not claiming any skill here.

Heh raw odds....

4 play in games....2 bits
32 first round.......32 bits
16 second round..16 bits
8 sweet 16..........8 bits
4 elite 8..............4 bits
2 final four..........2 bits
1 championship....1 bit

or raw odds of randomly guessing 1 in 3.68934881 x 10^19(2^65)

while I'm sure you can narrow down the odds some....still not going to happen...

OK, what if you throw out the possibility of a #16 advancing?
And take out the possibility of a 15 beating a 2? I know a 15 has beaten a two (Mizzou ), but its really rare.

That should shave off a couple million combos, and then, easy money.

Can't for the life of me figure out why it's 2^65 and not 2^67. Obviously, before the play in era the odds were 2^63. Isn't there 16(2^4) ways the play in games can go though?
