The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

It's done. a few sites are saying that geno could still fall out of the first round and i would be extremely happy to pick him up at 33 but i'd be reluctant to do that with the first pick.
A few sites? Hahahahah NO CHANCE AT ALL.

You were speaking only in majorities before. and using the minorities against us. To me it seems like you are so against Geno that you are seeing what you want to see. Which is soo ironic considering the arguments you've been touting.

Are you expecting consistency from someone who has such stupid, stupid takes?

He's not smart enough to form his own opinion, how can you expect him to be smart enough to know when he's contradicting himself or not.

I just don't want to overstate how bad Alex Smith is just to validate my position in this argument.

This statement leads me believe you don't understand it's a QB league. You're talking about Luke Joeckel (cough - Joe Thomas, Jake Long). You're talking about Dwayne Bowe when we don't have a QB to get him the ball.

All of these other positions and players you're talking about don't matter until you get a QB. It's that simple.

Unbelievable. We suffer through a 2-14 season and what's the payoff? Creating a gaping hole in this team by letting a good player walk over money. And throwing away the #1 overall pick to boot.

Anybody out there who wants Joeckel I just don't get. You want a LT? Great. I'll give you Brandon Albert. LT problem solved. Now that we've essentially gained the #1 pick back. We're now free to use that pick we wouldn't have anyways according to your plan. Here's a crazy thought. Lets draft the most important position in all of sports. QB!

Oh that's right. There's not one worth the #1 overall pick. Tell that to former #18 overall pick Joe Flacco. Apparently he wasn't worth the #1 overall either.

Even a sheldon richardson or shariff floyd, or even a dee milliner that would make our team alot better. Then we add a second round qb and let him learn under reid and alex smith.

I definitely wouldn't mind joeckel as he is the favorite for most people to land the top pick. That way we wouldn't have to pay albert and we could save that money to get bowe's deal done and add another key free agent.
Well, at least TWO of those guys aren't going to get out of the first round (bolded). I don't understand the reasoning of "This QB class sucks, no top guy worthy of No. 1, so let's draft the 4th-6th best QB with the 34th pick."

Regarding getting Joeckel and saving money on Brandon Albert... the Chiefs don't need to worry about saving money, thanks to old Scooter Pioli. They have the cap room to sign both Albert and Bowe to free agent deals (especially if they dump the worthless ass of MAtt Cassel, re-work the Tyson Jackson deal or cut him, and don't waste $7.5 million paying Alex Smith).

Sure, there are special players in this draft. But there are no special players that have separated themselves from the pack.

Floyd and Richardson are both nice DTs, but they both have warts. Neither is a great fit as a DE in a 3-4 (they're actually similar players to Glen Dorsey, who was woefully miscast as a 3-4 DE). Richardson has MAJOR immaturity and work ethic issues to boot.

Dee MIlliner is NOT a special corner. His upside is that of a good No. 2.

There just isn't a guy that stands out above the crowd. And that includes Luke Joeckel.

Stop worrying so much about what the experts think. The national guys don't look at teams as closely as the hardcore fans do. And those guys are coming around on Geno, anyway...

We may trade for Alex Smith. We may. But there is really no logical reason that it would be leaked to the media now by the chiefs. NONE WHAT SO EVER. This is posturing by San Fran, or impatient lies from media heads who think there is no way the chiefs will draft Geno.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that shit right now. None.

I agree geno's stock has risen but these mock drafts are only projections of where the analysts think teams will go. They think teams will want to fill a need so they'll reach for geno because he's had a great interview or workout. I believe geno is a very risky number one pick whereas a guy like joeckel will be a great left tackle for us the next decade. A 2nd round qb, to me, will be just as risky as taking geno there at first.

I'm beyond caring.

I don't want Alex Smith and I could really care less if he's not bad, he's just mediocre.

No reason to believe it other than the fact that is exactly how the Chiefs have done things since the franchise's inception.

what??? It's still very much the majority that geno is not a first pick...i don't get what you're saying. You guys are still the minority, Fact.

And the fact that some think that he'll fall out of the first round, even tho it's the minority speaks of geno's risk. People have him all over the first round. If youre gonna take him high its a risk whereas luck and rg3 were consensus first picks.
