If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

Before going to Philly, Mike Vick was an inaccurate running QB who never threw 3,000 yards. He also never averaged 30 passes a game in his career.

Once he got coached by Reid, he looked drastically better. His first year starting in 2010 was incredible for his standards. He completed over 60% of his passes, only threw 6 INT's and had a 100 QBR.

Then in 2011 he kept his completion % to 60%, threw even more yards and exceled to a better passing QB than he ever was in Atlanta.

Then last year, even with the OL trouble, he threw a lot more yards. He was on pace to have almost 3,800 passing yards. Yes that's right. You read that right.
All of this was with Vick throwing 30 or more passes on average.

Now to look at Alex Smith. The last 2 years, Alex Smith was 9-3 when he threw the ball 30 times a game with 14 TD's to 7 INT's (3 INT's were in one game).

Last year Alex Smith was on pace to throw 24 TD's and have around 3,300 passing yards in Harbaugh's conservative offense.

According to the stats, it's not out of the question that Alex Smith has a good year. I think it's definitely possible for him to throw 25 TD's and 3,400 yards in this more aggressive offense.

This post doesn't bode well for me to build any confidence for Alex Smith under Andy Reid offense. Mike Vick was injury prone and prone to fumble, I don't expect the fumbles from Alex Smith but he is injury prone and no argument can change that thought he is going be healthy all season even.

I thought Mike Vick played like shit for the most part when I saw him play. The fans were getting tired of his QBing play. It was good for Andy Reid to be able to switch quarterbacks but he didn't have much choice.

Maybe we will have a better O-line this year and that helps Alex stay on his feet if he gets rid of the ball in a timely manner and on target? That is the only thing that can help Alex Smith survive.

Alex Smith is more mobile than most people give him credit for.

He takes a fair number of hits but that's mainly because he'll take a sack instead of making a risky throw

Okay, I think you're undervaluing the major upgrade at QB and coaching. That coupled with improved line play should generate both more points and more first downs. With less pressure on the defense, better coaching and more rest, the defense should be much improved as well.

The OL looks impressive, but Bowe and Charles are the only talented skill players on offense. Offensively, the Chiefs will not be much better than last season.

I'd guess 6 wins.
KC was BEHIND FOR NEARLY EVERY MINUTE OF THE SEASON last year due to 50 some turnovers. Kind of hard to pin your ears back in that situation. You are kind of dumb sometimes.

For ****s sake they won 7 games the year before with a musical chair of shit QB's including Falco and without Charles and Berry. Yeah, but their ceiling is a 6 win team....SURE!!!

Alex Smith already becoming leader of Chiefs

Quote:
''Just watching Steve Young back in the day, he's that kind of guy,'' wide receiver Dwayne Bowe said Wednesday. ''He's not too vocal about it, but when he's in the huddle, he makes his presence known. He's demanding guys speed up - I mean, I never had a quarterback like that.'' He thrived during the 2011 season, going 13-3 and leading his team to the playoffs. He was doing it again last year, too, as the 49ers got off to a 6-2-1 start.
Quote:
''He's a great quarterback, a guy that's mobile, a guy that knows how to read defense and take advantage of mismatches,'' wide receiver Dexter McCluster said. ''He's definitely confident. As a quarterback, you need to be confident. But knowing him, he's never shaken.''
Quote:
''He's been to the Super Bowl as a backup, so he brings that leadership,'' running back Jamaal Charles said. ''And I know he's probably hungry because he didn't play in the Super Bowl, but bringing that here and wanting to get back to the Super Bowl, yeah, he's one of the leaders. Everyone looks up to him.''

The homer inside me wants to point out that Steve Young wasn't very good AT ALL early in his career and didn't really start to play well until he was 29 years old.

In fact, he was just as shitty as Alex Myth was prior to 2011.

True story. And, it took an offensive minded guy in bill walsh to see what no one else did..

Now. Steve young is my favorite 49er of all time. Alex Smith cant hold his jock.

Don't make me beat you, boy.

He did that in 10 games.

He also averaged 14 yards per completion, which was ****ing unreal in 1991.

Steve Young started what? A third of the games Smith has at this point in their careers? We can stop trying to compare the 2.

We've already gone over this in another thread.

Steve Young was showing so much potential by that point that people wanted to dump Joe ****ing Montana.

Not comparable.
