edit: Sources say the player is Jovan Belcher. Police have yet to confirm.

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

I have a suggestion.... Chiefs fans should bury the hatchet for tomorrow, go in full force to Arrowhead and support the players & staff. Life trumps football, and those guys will need you tomorrow. No black shirts, no boos, just people to people.

It seems Pioli was talking him out of it but I don't think he was planning on killing anyone but himself there. I don't think he was thinking about someone else and then saw the cops and decided to just kill himself.

pretty sure, if he had really wanted to, he could have gotten some funds and disappeared, or at least tried

I think his intentions were clear. He snapped, couldn't live with himself, said goodbye, killed himself.

I doubt we ever will know everything about Belcher or this case. Issues in his past are only now coming to light publicly.

Again, he was clearly wired wrong. But with that said, my 47 years of living on this planet leads me to believe this was a crime of passion and nothing more.

It doesn't really matter what you think though does it? What happened at that part seems pretty self evident and any other speculation like that is just a bunch of drama momma BS.

Aside from wildly guessing, what is motivating this view? There are murder/suicides ever single day. Without compelling evidence to the contrary, we don't need to make this any more sensational than it already is.

So horrible. This season was hilariously bad before, now it's just something I wish I could forget.

The answer to the first question is obvious: he's not all there. Once this statement becomes factual, as it has in this case, trying to discern logic from Belcher's subsequent actions is a fruitless exercise.
