When 8th grade Jared Marcum got dressed for school on Thursday he says he had no idea that his pro-Second Amendment shirt would initiate what he calls a fight over his First Amendment rights.

"I never thought it would go this far because honestly I don't see a problem with this, there shouldn't be a problem with this," Jared said.

It was the image of a gun printed on Jared's t-shirt that sparked a dispute between a Logan Middle School teacher and Jared, that ended with Jared suspended, arrested and facing two charges, obstruction and disturbing the education process, on his otherwise spotless record.

Jared's father Allen Lardieri says he's angry he had to rush from work to pick his son up from jail over something he says was blown way out of proportion.

"I don't' see how anybody would have an issue with a hunting rifle and NRA put on a t-shirt, especially when policy doesn't forbid it," Lardieri said.

The Logan County School District's dress code policy prohibits clothing that displays profanity, violence, discriminatory messages and more but nowhere in the document does it say anything about gun images.

"He did not violate any school policy," Lardieri reiterates. "He did not become aggressive."

Now, Lardieri says he's ready to fight until the situation is made right.

"I will go to the ends of the earth, I will call people, I will write letters, I will do everything in the legal realm to make sure this does not happen again," Lardieri said.

Logan City Police did confirm that Jared had been arrested and charged today.

13 news tried contacting the Logan County School District but has not heard anything back.

Why hasn't this fallen of the front page. The kid went back to school wearing the same shirt along with other kids wearing the same shirt, and you haven't heard another thing about it in the news. Obviously the school admitted their mistake and moved on. So should you whiners.

There are no guns allowed at school. This is a rule. Follow it or don't, but the consequences are perfectly clear, and there is no need for hand-wringing when someone accidentally breaks it. It's no different than accidentally bringing a gun onto an airplane or into a courtroom. This shit doesn't require nuance. It just requires a brain.

The people saying that this is a gray area are no different than the people making rules about not biting pop tarts into gun shapes. You are two sides of the same coin.

One side sees a rule that says "no guns allowed at school under penalty of expulsion" and thinks, "toy guns and fingers pointing like guns and pop tarts bit into gun shapes and drawings of guns are all guns, so we should expel them all".

The other side sees a rule that says "no guns allowed at school under penalty of expulsion" and thinks, "it's okay to bring a gun as long as it was by accident or it wasn't loaded or it was just for show and tell, so these people shouldn't be expelled".

People like me see "no guns allowed at school under penalty of expulsion" and think, "if you bring an actual gun to school, you're expelled". Sorry if that doesn't seem like common sense to you. Keep fighting the good fight and defending irresponsible people who can't keep track of their ****ing shotguns and see what that does for gun rights.

I will basically sum up your post: Whatever the law says is right even if it may not be moral. People shouldn't use their reasoning or morals to find out the best solution, just follow the sacred law.

So, Saul Good circa 50 years ago would be just fine with segregation because damn it, its the law and you must follow what the law says no matter what.
