Cannot wait for this ****ing game.

Im super stoked they are going for the M rating on this game also, and not watering him down like they had to in the Ultimate Alliance 2 game.

Decapitations, harsh language, brutal violence, funny one liners, this game is going to be awesome.

No offense to old school Duke fans, but Deadpool is way funnier, and cooler than Duke ever thought about being.

Deadpool is one of my favorite characters, and this one looks like its going to capture him as he should be, and not censored and kid friendly like he was in MUA 2.

Ive got some mixed feelings on this game, and this will likely be a long post.

Strap in.

On the one hand, the Story was absolutely hilarious. Its a must play.

Must buy....im not so sure. I pre-ordered it because I just love the character and in the case of many games that have characters I love, I can often look past some flaws that the normal reviewer may mention.

The story, the character, and the interactive set moments in the game are brilliant. I literally was laughing my ass off at points in this game, which just never happens. The character is captured extremely well in the story and the voice over acting by Nolan North.

The rest of it, the actual gameplay, its not really that great. Its not horrible by any means, but it definitely doesn't have the flash that I was expecting.

Combat is essentially button mashing. X and Y are heavy attacks, and by combining these, you can get a few combos going that you will repeat about a zillion times throughout the game.

Once you've killed enough enemies with a particular firearm, you can then purchase an upgrade called Gunkata, so that the firearm can be incorporated into your melee combat, which can spice up the gameplay. Finish moves, and counters can now be done with firearms mid-combo and often looks pretty cool.

Deadpool can teleport, but its very watered down for this game. Its more of a "blink" from Wow for anyone who ever played a mage, or the Blink from Dishonored, without all the range. Teleporting is basicly Deadpool's means of evading attacks. While teleporting, you take no damage and can buy time for your healing factor to kick in. I don't know how many of you played X3 the videogame for last gen systems, but that game allowed you to play as Nightcrawler, which also combined Teleporting, Swords, and Martial Arts. While that game nailed the offensive uses for teleporting, this game only uses the Teleport as a means of defense, which is disappointing.

Unfortunately the decision was made to put Teleport's command on the same key as Counter, and Finish. So while you may intend to run over and kick that dude in the balls and chop off his head, you actually just teleport past him and his stun wears off, and the fight begins anew.

Doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be noticeable, and an issue.

The offense in the beginning is just ASS. Before upgrading, often to the max, Deadpools weapons feel like toy versions of their real counterparts. His guns fire slowly, and don't do much damage before upgrades, and his Katanas feel depressingly familiar to Wolverine's claws in every single game before Origins. You know, like they are made out of plastic.

Some enemies you can literally rack up a 50 hit combo on with the Katanas and they still are not dead. Emptying full clips of ammo into an enemy takes away about half of their health.

Once you've fully upgraded, these limitations are alleviated quite a bit, but on the way up the ladder, its excruciating at times.

While Deadpool does have a healing factor, it takes just a shade longer to kick in that most shooter games' regenerative healing or shield recharge. The result is that enemies with automatic weapons can put you down in about 2 seconds if you don't get to them and interrupt them fast.

That wouldn't be so bad, if the camera weren't an issue a big part of the time. In teleporting around, the camera struggles to keep track of the action, and often times you can find yourself being absolutely shredded by gunfire coming from off-screen, while you teleport like mad trying to find the source. After 3 teleports in succession (5 if you upgrade) your battery is dead and you have to wait on a cooldown before you can evade. If your life is low, generally, this is death.

Ive suffered numerous cheap deaths at the hads of AR users simply because I either could not see them, or instead of teleporting to evade I ended up countering a melee enemy that was close to me, locking me into a stationary animation that just allowed the dude to shred me with his AR.

Those gripes aside, it was a pretty fun and hilarious run through the story. If you can look past a few shortcomings, there is a lot of fun to be had here. If you find yourself craving this style of PS2 era hack and slash combat, the challenge maps offer limitless combat. After Bronze, Silver, and Gold ranks are completed on the map, an infinite mode is unlocked where you can simply pick up and play, slaughtering dudes left and right until youre finally overwhelemed.

If you don't enjoy the combat, the game offers little replay value. There are no collectibles in the story, no unlockable costumes (save for the ones that are auto switched when playing infinite mode challenges), and no real variation on how to do things.

You can see all that the game has to offer in about 6-8 hours. Its a great story that should be seen at least once, with an average, if a bit sloppy combat system. The question will be what is the story and experience worth to you. 8 bucks for a rental, or 40-50 for a purchase based on system.

I bought the game, and while initially a bit disappointed, the combat is beginning to grow on me now that I have all the upgrades. As it stands though, you wont find a better Deadpool experience anywhere else. This blows his MUA2 Appearance out of the water.
