Net Neutrality: You should be concerned

Net Neutrality is the guiding principle of the internet. It preserves our right to browse freely and communicate openly over the internet.

Net Neutrality enables and protects free speech.

It forces ISPs to provide us with open networks and disallows any discrimination against an application or content which rides over that network. Just as your cellular network shouldnít decide who you can or cannot call, ISPs shouldnít interfere with what you can or cannot do on the internet.

If you haven't been following along, Net neutrality is the idea that all traffic on the Internet should be treated equally. That means your broadband provider, which controls your access to the Internet, can't block or slow down the services or applications you use over the Web. It also means your Internet service provider -- whether it's a cable company or telephone service -- can't create so-called fast lanes that force content companies like Netflix to pay an additional fee to deliver their content to customers faster.

These huge companies will profit by providing better speed to the sites that pay them more money. We have no right to know which sites paid for faster speed. All the money and power of the internet will be in the hands of a few powerful corporations.

Just think of the consequences for a second......start ups and small businesses will have to compete against the power of the big dogs that paid money for faster traffic. Service and options will slowly fade away due to an uneven competing environment.

The more sinister part could be the billionaires with an agenda will buy majority stakes in these ISPs and give faster speeds to sites aligned with their beliefs. This could happen on both sides of the political fence. And you will never know who paid or what group of sites are being favored. Talk about picking winners and losers.....GEEZZZZ

Can anyone tell me why even do this? How does this benefit the internet or us in any way?

I misread your post so that's why I stated those reasons. Yes, I do support net neutrality.

yep, it's part of why they implemented net neutrality to begin with.

A good example of this would be how our television providers often times have contract disputes with production companies and often times individual channel service is interrupted. If net neutrality ends, be prepared for a similar set up with your ISPs; Tiered Packages with all your favorite websites parceled out. It's going to suck balls.

Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Sling, PS TV, they are all cutting into the ISPs slice of the cable pie. Instead of developing an affordable product that could compete they are flexing their muscles with the FCC.

The only people I have met that support ablolishing NN is people that are just blind supporters of the president and support any dipshit he appointed to office.

So let me get this straight, you guys are ok with the GOVERNMENT getting involved in the internet, and regulating prices.

Yet, you don't want to do the same with Content Providers (Facebook, Google, Twitter)?

Do I have this correct in my mind?

For all those who are wondering, NN didn't go into effect till 2015. Have YOU NOTICED ANYTHING!?

No I stand with free market principles, there was no NN before 2015, and nothing has changed since.

Netflix was throttled by a ton of ISPs prior to and after net neutrality.

What the hell is wrong with the internet as it is now?

I don't want some theoretical "Competition, innovation, less regulation, blah blah blah." SPECIFICALLY how will America benefit from repealing this regulation?

There were some aspects of NN before 2015. ISP skirted those rules, which caused the development of clearer laws.

And more money for greedy conglomerates. Don't forget that part.

or are you supporting net neutrality? You have it backwards.
You don't want your internet speeds for your devices to be throttled? Pay more money. Oh, you want to browse Reddit or Imgur on a regular basis? Well, that package is going to cost you $15 extra a month on your bill.

People are cutting the cable cord in droves, and this is the way those huge corporations get their money back - they go in dry in a place where you have no choice but to comply if you want to continue streaming Netflix and Hulu. Namely, your ISP. It's greedy bullshit, plain and simple.

I stand with free market too, which is why I stand with net neutrality.

Open internet vs pay to play, which one is "free"

Its an extortion attempt. ISPs want to be able to charge more to both the consumer and the content provider so they can maximize profit in a business that they had full control of, and lost due to their lack of innovation.

Abolishing NN is a government bailout of the ISPs essentially, to help them reduce their lost profits.

But it's pretty clear that benefiting Americans is not a high priority for those in office. And that goes for both sides.
