Republicans Save Electric-Car Subsidy

"The world's most deliberative body." BARF!!!

I would think the left would love this one. Let's see how far their partisanship takes them on this one.

I'm gonna' have to find out which Republican Senators kept this one.
The same Republicans who worked overtime to make sure Obamacare wasn’t repealed – or even “replaced” – have done as expected and made sure the $7,500 subsidy for the purchase of electric cars remains in place.

These Republicans are Senate Republicans – the worst Republicans of all.

... language was included in the House version of the Republican spending bill which would have eliminated the despicable $7,500 sop to the electric car “industry,” – which is an “industry,” in the sense of making things that can swim on their own in the way that Caitlyn Jenner is a woman....

And so, the EV subsidy was restored. What matters to them is retaining and if possible enhancing the federal government’s power – which amounts to the same thing as their power. Once elected, a senator becomes Washington’s representative, not yours or even the state from which the creature nominally emanates.

Once upon a time, senators were constrained to represent their state as they were elected by the state legislature, which was interested in the interests of the state – which wasn’t ideal, either – but at least it wasn’t the federal government.

Torn?

That's a strange answer for a self-proclaimed conservative if conservatism means limited govt, and more for the free-market. This should be an easy one.

These days the House Republicans are acting more like conservatives—on domestic issues.

Not really. Using less gasoline should be a national priority. That's why I also support and supported increasing the MPG of vehicles by the government.

It's not as simple as that. At least here in Missouri anyways. If memory serves, something like 70% of our electricity comes from coal. So driving an electric car is not reducing pollution.

Coal appears to be on the way out.

I'm kinda curious myself, although I guess it don't much matter. I'm about 90% sure I am voting against both of my Senators when the time comes.

Well, I'm really just asking, is 70% coal/30% clean better than 100% gas?

If we are assuming that the other 30% is indeed clean, then yes. But I honestly don't know the exact numbers on what comes from where. Heck, they may be using diesel generators or something for the rest. I don't know.

But yes, in theory, you would be correct.

Considering the EIA says that 2016 electric vehicles accounted for less than 4% of total transportation energy source I just don't see hitting that 30% mark for "clean" energy any time soon. Until then, you're just moving around on coal fired, nuclear fired, or natural gas fired vehicles.

This 100% renewables is an absolute pipe dream pending some sort of massive technological break through akin to discover of fire or the wheel.

EDIT: That's correct for Missouri. For the US as a whole, Coal provides about 30% of the electricity generation. Which is actually second behind natural gas(34%). Nuclear provides about 20%.

If we're truly talking free market, how much has natural demand been stifled by lobbying from big oil?
