If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

The Chiefs can win the AFC West in 2013. In actuality, I'm pretty sure that they will. They are a better team than the Broncos and easily better than the Chargers or Raiders.

If this team starts putting together some wins and gets it's confidence going, they'll give a lot of teams a run for their money.
I remember this "Culture of Losing" bullshit that was thrown around during 2009, too. Do you really think those players carry that same cultural weight upon their necks that the fans do?

Who has been here for the darkest moments: Bowe, Hali, Charles, Albert, Flowers. Are those guys really "losing" players?

How much did Mike Vrabel, Zach Thomas, Bobby Engram, Amani Toomer, or any other bald-tired, brokedick help that?

Organizational futility affects the fans far more than the players. Shit, the players probably couldn't name half the guys in the Chiefs ROF if they weren't in the stadium.

Amazing how talent can create a "winning culture."

Royals, who have hung multiple banners in the dick sock Hall of Fame, pay out the ass for high-quality pitching. Ta da! Wins!

Who are you to say that "he is topped out"? Every year, Alex gets better. That's a fact. If you believe your coaches and team around Alex are good? Then why can he not get even better? And even if he stays "topped out" at where he is? Hey, that's pretty damn good.

If in year one, he and the Chiefs win only 8 games... won't you have more happy endings to games than you did the year before? Improvement from your terrible 2012 record has to start somewhere. Could be that KC wins 8 or 9 games this year... then follows that up with a 10+ win season... maybe they go all the way in the next few years. Reid and Dorsey are trying to bring back a winning culture in KC. Would KC be guaranteed winning seasons in the next few years with a rookie?

It's time for some of you to get your head's outta yer arses. Step up and believe in what's being built or simply just GTFO and go watch golf or something.

They lost because they had a shitty QB and a bad head coach. They've upgraded to a mediocre QB and a coach who is both good and terrible.

Do you think the Patriots would switch 2-53 with the Chiefs? Probably. But while some people may use that justification as a reason for why the Chiefs fail, I think a far more convincing argument could be made for the primacy of the QB position and competent gameday coaching.

2-53?

This is probably spot on. And I'd also add that the organization was far more dysfunctional than any of us knew or thought we knew.

The Chiefs have six Pro-Bowlers on the team. And they just shored up any questions that they had in terms of positions with very good free agent signings.

Alex Smith is a gutty, tough, smart guy who leads by example. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and having guys like Bowe, Charles and Fasano along with the makings of a pretty good offensive line and a very good defense, this team is set up to have Alex Smith be successful.

I wasn't necessarily a fan of the trade, especially considering that we gave up two seconds, but it was without question the best option available to help this team move forward in the right direction as quickly as possible. And Smith was ascending the past two seasons, playing at a pretty high level. This was not giving up a second round pick for Matt Cassel type of situation. Alex Smith can actually play in this league.

Football is a TEAM game, and Alex did his part well... including a handful or so of clutch comebacks to help pull out wins. He certainly didn't win games all by himself... but what QB really does?

No. The Cassel pick-up was praised by a sizable amount of the board, maybe a majority, as a wise decision because ***** knew him so well. As we now know, ***** couldn't think outside of a matchbox..
