So my wife decided to use my laptop....

.....earlier this week, and she hooked up a wireless mouse.

I like to simply use the touch pad, so I removed it, but now I can not just tap and click on the touch pad.

I am having to use the left button below the touch pad to click.

How do I fix this?

How do I get it back to simply tapping the touch pad to click on links?

Silly question, but have you restarted the laptop without the wireless connecter plugged in?

If using windows 7 -- go to control panel (category view) -- click "hardware and sound" -- then choose "mouse" beneath devices and printers -- mouse properties box opens and you should select the Device Settings tab on the far right -- then click the setting button below Devices -- Double click the word "tapping" in the list to the left and check the box for "enable tapping" -- click Ok on both boxes and you're done.

I have XP. I would never load Vista as it is a resource hog. My old computer probably can't handle Win7.

You really prefer the touchpad over a mouse? I can't stand laptop touch pads.
