Absolutely. If we feel it's necessary to control cable, phone, and electric prices, we should ABSOLUTELY be doing it with oil.

You are aware that crude is a globally-traded commodity, and that gasoline is refined from crude, yes?

I think that the government could provide it to it's citizens much cheaper if it controlled the entire process. It really goes against all of my principles regarding government, however if sheer greed dictates that 48 billion in profits a year from 1 oil company alone is the standard, it's time to take away the privilege.

And let's be clear. Gasoline and oil are a necessity of modern life. Putting all of that extra money into the rest of the economy would probably help as well.

I see. You want to nationalize our energy companies.

And, as has been said, the profit margin for the energy companies is actually relatively low.

I'm ignorant to this compared to you. I admit it. Explain to me if you will how $48 billion dollars in net profit for 1 company of many in this industry is relatively low?

I wonder how much gas would cost in a Nationalized non profit setting. I remember hearing someone say that a guy who worked in the industry stated that anything over 1.50 a gallon for gas equaled being raped. Now, this was supposedly a few years ago, but I can't imagine the inflation being more than say, $2 a gallon now. There is no doubt these guys would be turning a profit with gasoline at $2-$2.50 a gallon.

Because the actual dollar amount isn't important. Net profit margin is. The major energy companies make about 8% profit margin, which basically means that they make $0.08 of profit for every dollar of revenue.

So they spend roughly $500 billion in order to make that $48 billion?
