Cassel is ADAMANT he will play Sunday for Chiefs

My kind of QB. One tough Hombre

All doubts seemed to disappear Wednesday that Matt Cassel would start at quarterback Sunday when they open their regular season against Buffalo at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs returned to practice after a day off and Cassel was a full participant.

“No doubt in my mind,” Cassel said when asked if he would play. “I feel good. I feel like I’m ready to go.

“Come you-know-what or high water, I’m going to be out there.”

Cassel left in the second quarter of last week’s preseason game in Green Bay with a rib injury. The Chiefs were concerned that Cassel wouldn’t be able to play against the Bills.

In that case, Tyler Palko would be the starting quarterback. Palko has never started an NFL game and played in only two.

Cassel indicated he might not be at full strength Sunday but said that wouldn’t prevent him from doing his job.

“If you play this game long enough, there’s going to be bumps and bruises,” Cassel said. “If you feel good on Mondays after a game, then you probably didn’t play much on Sunday. You know when you play this game, you’re not always going to feel your best.”

Brown makes Bills roster

Colin Brown of Braymer, Mo., and the University of Missouri, is one of Buffalo’s reserves at guard and center. The Chiefs drafted Brown in 2009 in the fifth round but cut him last year at the end of training camp.

Bills coach Chan Gailey was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator during training camp of Brown’s rookie year.

“He’s a different guy than what we had that first training camp he had back in Kansas City,” Gailey said. “He’s a lot more mature, a lot more confident. He was trying to feel his way through during the short time I was there with him. He’s moving better now. He seems to have added a step of quickness.”
