A look at 2014 Free Agents - Who should we pursue?

Obviously, there are several vulnerable spots on the roster that could and should be improved upon. John Dorsey isn't a huge free agency guy, or hasn't been in the past, and will no doubt look to improve many of our problems through the draft. There are, however, several big name guys that could garner some attention from the Chiefs. Here are a few positions that I think we need to improve upon, and the 2014 FA's for those positions (age of FA shown). Feel free to add to the mix. I've bolded a few players that I think we may show interest in.

3 of our OL are coming up as FA's (Schwartz, Asamoah, and Albert) so we'll need to pick up a few pieces or resign some guys. I'm betting Albert is gone.

Who should we pursue? Who should we avoid?

Discuss.

WR
Eric Decker, 26
Jeremy Maclin, 25
Julian Edelman, 27
Hakeem Nicks, 25
Anquan Boldin, 33
Golden Tate, 25
Kenny Britt, 25
Riley Cooper, 26
Emmanuel Sanders, 26

TE
Jimmy Graham, 27 (Saints would be full reerun to let him go)
Dennis Pitta, 28
Brandon Pettigrew, 28
Fred Davis, 27
Garret Graham, 27

OG
Jon Asamoah, 25
Geoff Schwartz, 27
Travelle Wharton, 32
Richie Incognito, 30
Kevin Booth, 30

OT
Branden Albert, 29 (possible franchise tag again?)
Zach Streif, 30
Eugene Monroe, 26
Jared Veldheer, 26
Michael Oher, 27
Austin Howard, 26

DE
Greg Hardy, 25 (not going anywhere)
Jared Allen, 31 (4-3 guy)
Michael Johnson, 26 wishful thinking here.
Lamaar Houston, 26
Justin Tuck, 30
Arthur Jones, 27
Robert Ayers, 28

LB (we need help at Jordan's spot)
Brandon Spikes, 26
Karlos Dansby, 32 (many here wanted him last time around)
Jon Beason, 28
Jonathan Vilma, 31 If Sutton stays, expect Vilma to get a look for a short-term deal.
Daryl Smith, 31

CB
Brent Grimes, 30
DRC, 27
Vontae Davis, 25
Aqib Talib, 27
Charles Tillman, 32
Captain Munnerlyn, 25
Chris Harris, 24
Others could be listed here as well.

SProbably our most glaring need, after Kendrick's debacle of a season
Jairus Byrd, 27 (will likely be tagged again)
TJ Ward, 27
Donte Whitner, 28 (SF may not be able to afford him. We may not either.)
Bernard Pollard, 29
James Ihedigbo, 30
Major Wright, 25
Chris Clemons, 28
Antione Bethea, 29

Those are just a few to get us started. Go.

This. The DL needs a pass rusher that is worth a damn

He is really slowing down and he gets hurt so much you can't count on him to be there for you. His injuries seem to always effect his speed and ability to cover WRs. If we move him to FS he might make it through a season?
So you want to take a guy that is, according to you, slowing down and injury prone.....and you want to move him to FS? Where he's going to be asked to cover more field than he does now? Yeah.....smart.

That's great but we probably won't be getting one. The free agent market is fairly weak. We can't afford someone like Tuck. Rookie d-linemen rarely do jack shit in their first season or two. We should draft a d-linemen and definately get a CB.

We need to sign a FA FS and then draft the best available between OLB, DE, CB or WR.
We're probably just going to disagree on the CBs.

Being a safety isn't all about speed. In most cases they are safeties because they aren't fast enough to play CB. It's why guys like Rod Woodson, Charles Woodson, Ronnie Lott and countless other move to safety when they start slowing down.

Playing safety is about sticking to your assignment and reading plays. Like I said, Flowers excels in zone coverage and tackling. He is very smart and I think he would be in the right spot more often than not. I think he could be good at it.

You really have it backwards pest.

Offenses figured out how to beat our defense in the 2nd half of this season because of the following things:

1. Spread out the defense. Our defensive line generated zero ****ing pressure.
2. If you spread out the defense....the weak spot is the deep safety. Pick your matchups and exploit Lewis.
3. Crossing routes and pick patterns.

Our defense didn't suck because our CBs are horrible. It sucked because Lewis had no clue what he was doing and we couldn't generate any pressure on a consistent basis. Sutton needs to start figuring out how to use the depth that he ****ing has and we need to find DEs that can't rush the passer.

We need defensive ends but you better have a better plan than that. Finding them is going to be tough. In the mean time you better get a corner fast enough to follow a wide receiver in a crossing route and a safety that can read plays and stick to assignments. Look at the big picture. Odds are that our sack total from DEs will not go up next year. Odds are that we will not strike gold drafting a DE.

Restructure Bowe and Hali to extend Houston.

My list is as follows.....

OT - Albert - Pay the man. He's better than what we can replace him with internally or externally.
G - Asamoah - Depth
DE - Lamarr Houston - He's 26 and coming into his prime as a DE. 300 pounder with 69 tackles and 6 sacks.
CB - Munnerlyn or Talib. I think either one is going to be out of our price range.
S - Byrd - Priority #1. This HAS to happen. HAS to. We need competent S play.
WR - Sanders or Nicks.

Like it says - wish list. Re-sign Albert and Asamoah and gimme one of them. Maybe 2.

I would think Byrd or some other S would be priority number 1.

The team isn't going to pay berry 11 mil and pay byrd 8 mil.

They could get by signing an average safety for much less, extend its guys, and focus getting a playmaker on offense.

I'd rather have Byrd than Berry.
