This team is frustrating as hell to watch. They could be closing the gap if they'd stop shooting so many God damn 3s

Kietzman's take tomorrow: The Tigers were flat and uninspired because they were told before the game that MPJ is out for the year.

Game was a third trimester abortion. Looked like last years team. No team leaders. This is a problem. Chance to make a statement and we browned ourselves.

I expected a loss in that game as soon as I saw the schedule, and the blowout doesn't surprise me. With Porter, I still think they lose but probably make it more of a game.

Utah has good size, and experience, and can shoot the ball. Krystowiak is also a good coach.

It's the type of game you need to build from and learn from.

With Porter, Jr. Out, ifJontay Porter and Tilmon don't impact the game, it's not a much different team from last year. Puryear and Barnett are not lead dogs against P5 competition.

Biggest question is going to be the guard play. They need to get more from Blake Harris, enough that he can start and allow Robertson to play off the ball. The rest of Missouri's guard options all have major flaws and defensive issues.

Shoot bad, look bad.

The Tigers weren't actually as bad as the score last night. In a lot of ways they actually played pretty well. They were aggressive offensively and spent a lot of the night generating good shots and high percentage plays towards the rim.

They just weren't hitting; shit happens. Regression was always going to happen and sadly it hit us hard last night. They had plenty of good looks that even looked true heading towards the rim that were just off. It reminded me of the UConn Elite 8 game where they outplayed Uconn something awful but lost because they were just a tick off on their shot.

Those games happen and when they do, that's when having a guy like MPJ is invaluable. He could've pulled them from the fire and maybe kept them in that game long enough to find their shot. At that point maybe Utah doesn't come out of the half white-hot and make it a bit of a walkaway.

This game doesn't actually change my perception of the team that much. Tilmon's foul issues worry me more than they did because at least 3 of them were just him getting abused by an experienced big; he bites so hard on those back to the basket hip fakes that he has no choice but to foul. But experience will help him 'feel' that fake. Right now his eyes are tricking him but an experienced big doesn't use his eyes; he bodies up and feels the weight transfer and that's what tells him where to go.

Eh, these games happen to solid squads. They don't happen to great ones but this isn't a great squad without MPJ, especially not as young as they are. The team they had on the court last night was solid and young. They'll get better and they'll get Porter at some point. Doesn't bother me much.

Yeah, that's just completely incorrect. Not even close. In fact, it's probably the dumbest thing I've seen in this thread.

They missed good looks. Last year's team never got good looks. And yes, there's a huge difference. Some nights the shots just don't fall and when you don't have a great isolation player, if your squad is having an off shooting night, you lose. But this isn't a bad shooting team and they'll rebound just fine.

Kassius is as close to an isolation player as that squad had last night, at least until Harris figures some stuff out. And Robertson attacked just like you'd want him to; he got to the line and he drew attention that allowed him to distribute. But he's not a pure scorer.

Good teams have bad nights. Shit, great teams have bad nights. And this team with a pack of freshmen and missing their best player is not a great team. Not sure why that suddenly makes them one of Kermit's nightmare squads.

50% of 2 < 34% of 3.

And with the three point line being a glorified free throw, especially from the corners, the answer in college is rarely to stop shooting threes but rather to find players that will make more of them.

And the spacing created by three point shooters opens up lanes allowing for drives to the net, free throw attempts and higher percentage shots.

Abandoning the three is pretty much universally a bad idea.

It's a thought process so old and out of date it actually makes his screen name look young by comparison.

Yeah, I was going to post something about expected points or expected value, but I wasn't sure it was worth my time.
