Know anyone in Lees Summit area who is skilled at taking down trees?

Im not talking about Skip who is skilled at 'smoking trees'. I need someone who can help me cut down this Sticky Gumball Tree that is in my front yard. If I dont cut it down soon, I will have 'hail damage' all over my car. :-(

Any ideas, or know of any cheap labor to help with this?

Should I leave out a bowl of antifreeze for the tree?

Hey speaking of Phobia working for cheap (hahaha), I'm looking at getting my deck torn out an replaced to extend the length of the back of my house. Maybe 700-900 square feet total. I also want the windows in my main floor master torn out and replaced with double french door on to the new deck. Should I do one before the other (specialists) or hire one person to do both? Also, what would you estimate the cost on a job like that to be? (Want that new composite decking material I keep hearing about)

Also, does time of year REALLY adjust costs? I keep hearing that the best time to get work like this done is Winter due to slow business. Looking at late spring, but may wait until late fall next year if costs really are cheaper for winter jobs. Just figure I probably ought to start looking into this kind of thing ahead of time.

I'm just trying to help him out. I know how tight funds get when you move into a new place cuz I'm going through the same thing myself. In truth, I'm going to down the tree with my saw and then let him cut it up and put it into my truck for hauloff. He's gonna have to work to save the money.

You can hire one person for both if they're qualified to do so. I have no idea of cost without looking at the project - you might have some challenges near the windows. I can ballpark if you wish. I think you're looking at about $2500 for the french door installation - that's finishing everything and touching up siding, interior, trim, and moving one light fixture. If you have to relocate plumbing or HVAC the price goes up from there.

The deck is very subjective. It depends on height from the ground, levels, materials, tons of factors. You could spend $5000 for a budget project on up to $25k for a really nice deck with quality materials.

Are you sure on the square footage of that deck?
700 Sq ft deck is a 10 x 70 deck or 20 x 35? That's a lot of deck.
Are you going for the title of biggest deck in the neighborhood?

hahaha

Yeah, I want a pretty good size deck. I live in Monument Colorado, and from my back deck have an INCREDIBLE view of the rockies from Cheyenne mountain all the way to Mt. Herman. I'll try and post some pictures of the view and you'll realize why I really want a big deck.

My main floor (which the deck attaches to because of a wlak-out in the basement) is about 1100 square feet. Just a simple guesstimate of the deck is maybe half the square footage since I want it to run the length.

Hey Phobia, since I live in Monument, I'm going to have to go with someone local, but really have no clue about this kind of stuff. Would you be willing to "consult" based off photos and measurements I can send you for what I should be looking for (materials / styles / etc.) or will have to pay? I figure a couple hundred bucks for a few hours of your time would probably save me 1000 or so dollars in the long run, and keep me from getting sold something I don't want.

Renovation and improvement people are like mechanics. If you find one you can trust you can get a great product, if not you can get screwed.

That sounds pretty fair, sure I'd be willing to consult electronically.

I forgot to answer your seasonal question. Yeah, you can find people who discount (or claim to discount) their winter work simply because the demand isn't perceived to be as high during the winter. The truth is that most contractors offer discounts that may or may not be legitimate, just like "sales" at a retail store. I've offered legitimate discounts and paper discounts.

Yeah, there isnt any of that shit, just a clean cut and pull... and cutting it down. Seems to be a relatively easy project if I had the right tools... therein lies the problem.

the tree is about 30-35 feet tall... hard to say, but damn, its taxing.
