2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy that Fielder went to Detroit, but it's not like they're unbeatable. I know "The Process" is something many people make fun of, but it seems to be coming around right about now and I have regained most of my faith in Dayton (although the singing of Yuni & re-singing of Getz don't help) that he's got a plan for this thing.

Plus, I haven't been optimistic about the Royals. Ever. I don't expect a division title or anything, but I'm excited for baseball. Prince Fielder's fat vegetarian ass can't take that away from me.

Really thinking about buying a Hosmer jersey this year......... I've got some bad luck with Royals jerseys though. First one I ever bought was a Jermaine Dye one about a month before he was traded. Picked up a Gordon one right after he changed to #4 before his 2nd year and he struggled until last season...

So for the betterment of the team, I may have to hold off. But the power of Hosmer may just squash the shit out of any of my bad jersey juju...

You be very careful with this. A fan purchasing a jersey often controls that players destiny much more than he, himself does. Hard work and skill mean very little. It's all about who is wearing the jersey, almost as if it is a pseudo voodoo doll.

Just giving you a hard time about superstitions man. We all have our own quirks. Sure, you've had "bad luck" with jerseys in the past, but it's pretty safe to say it's just that, luck. Buy that jersey. Doing so will have no impact on Hosmer's, or any other young Royals', awesomeness.

I'm not really a personalized jersey type but if I were going to buy one it would be Hosmer.

Glass-half-full post of the day:

Continuing on some discussions from the other board, if you really look at it, Detroit's defense could be historically bad. Up the middle (except catcher) they will be average to above average. Everywhere else, they will be somewhere between "below average" and "hilarious". On offense, they will be frightening up to the #4 hitter, but after that, 5 through 9? Not so much.

The Tigers easily have us on pitching. We easily have them on defense. On offense, their stars are brighter (unless Hosmer/Moose/Gordon/Butler all just really explode, hey it could happen), but we wont really have a hole top to bottom, except maybe 2B.

You put the right shade of blue in your tinted glasses, look at a few things, ignore a few inconvenient truths... hell, we could beat 'em. I wont bet $1,000 on it, but it can happen.

ya got me. Forgot to mention the Grenkie jersey I bought the year before he got shipped out (although he won the Cy Young the year I got it...).

The Dye thing could have been avoided if I hadn't been a dumbass 6th grader & had an internet connection. And it's not like Gordon lit the world on fire during his rookie season.

Anyway, I'll probably scout it out for a bit before I do anything, especially with how expensive jerseys are. Although those wholesale sites are intriguing...

Oh, and **** the Twins. This thread needs more Twins (and White Sux) hate.

That's true... anything can happen over a long season.

The only thing I might disagree with is Detroit being frightening 1-4 because as in the article I posted earlier Austin Jackson is over-rated at #1... but they'll be good no doubt.

Also like I said earlier (not trying to point myself out... ugh) I really think we as Royals fans need to look at this season with realistic expectations of such a young team against more seasoned competition. Let's make a nice stride this year and keep moving forward.

I'll take it. Should be good for second place unless someone else over-achieves. Cleveland over-achieved the first half last year and I never count the Twins out until they prove they're out. Oh and the Sox. yeah I hate the Sox. May they die in a fire.

If they don't finish at .500 or above this year. I will consider that a major disappointment

Really? .500 would be a 20 game improvement. That's more than significant.
