Going from 150K to 172K is not as significant. BUT, at that scale, the 22K is pure play money (hookers and blow). Stay in school kids. |

Certainly I wouldn't encourage anyone to take any job that will make their lives miserable no matter what the pay. (That's a bit beyond the "not exciting" you mentioned in the OP though. )

You always take the money. Your job's enjoyability depends on your aptitude for it and your attitude toward it. That 20k extra is a gamechanger at that level of economics.

I'm pretty lucky with the company I work for right now at my age. I only do about 4-5 hours of actual "work" per day. The other 3-4 hours I have extra lunch time, go home and workout at my gym. Watch Tv. Run errands. Go shopping.

Yeah Dane pointed that out earlier that I moved the goal posts - I was just moving the situation around a bit to see if that made a difference.

Take the enjoyment (B). Life's too short to be miserable for 1/3 of it. Other than sleeping that's the majority of your life.

As I've worked my way up the corporate ladder, I've realized a few things:
1. The higher you go up the ladder, the less actual "work" you do. At the highest levels, you are really just a decision maker using information being supplied to you by the people who directly report to you. 2. To succeed in any business, you better know or be able to learn how to motivate people. Currently I have 28 direct reports with a total of 512 employees that I'm ultimately responsible for. Each and every one of them have a different personality and are motivated by different means. 3. Money is one of the worst reasons to take a promotion. Sure, we all work to make a living, but when you think about it you spend a majority of your life at work. If you are at work solely for the money, you are going to be a very unhappy person. |
