If it is, statistically speaking, to be a nearly automatic out, then yes, put either Dyson or Gordon up there.

Gordon has done well at the leadoff spot. Why I don't like Cain at the leadoff is he is a little too much of a free swinger, doesn't usually work counts well and most importantly, seems to do his best work with runners on

Dyson does alright against lefties sometimes, but I wouldn't do it with Sale. Come on now, just look at that arm motion of his.

I had to go look it up, but lefties are hitting .118 against Sale coming into tonight. He has given up 1 extra base hit to a LH hitter all season. A LH hitter has not scored a run on him all season.

Sale has given up 9 hits to lefties this year prior to this game.

I totally understand your argument, except for tonight in specific. With Sale pitching and a lefty batting leadoff, odds are that player isn't going to be a productive leadoff hitter.
If we were facing an average lefty I could see your point.

Now why Cain is batting leadoff in the midst of his recent struggles, I have no idea.

Fair enough but running a guy who was 0-23 up there isn't exactly what I'd call a good strategy either.

The reason I like Dyson is he has a chance to get on regardless of the contact he makes and can shake things up once he is on. I mean you are picking your poison against Sale but I like having the speed at the top since we can't hit the ball very far

Butler has seen 2 pitches, swung at 2 pitches and has 3 outs as result of swinging at those 2 pitches
