I'd trade both of them also, but I'd fire Dayton Moore first and get a new GM to make the deal.

I don't know that it was wrong. It's still too soon to say IMO. We may flip Shields for something that gives us the better end of the deal, you never know.

See, as disappointing as this season has been that's been the funniest thing. That trade looked like a disaster on paper, but in a vacuum it's the only thing that's worked. All the other elements they were banking on fell through. If Hosmer and Moose and Butler have the seasons we expect, this team is right in the mix. Shields has helped the rotation immensely... and Myers honestly hasn't been any better than Lough, and has a Francoeurish K/BB ratio. He looks like a Royals prospect. He's only 22 though, so it'll be interesting to see if Tampa can beat that out of him.

If 2 guys actually hit like they are capable of we aren't fretting over Myers. Hosmer and Mistakeus (Both hot prospects) have failed for most of the season.

No, it hasn't worked because the overriding philosophy that determined it--we're in a position to win now--was wrong.

Thus, trading 6+ years of a potentially elite position player for 2 years of a good #2 pitcher was stupid.

Maybe Dayton can try and pull off a trade for Wil Myers. Offer up Shields, Santana, Davis, Johnson, and throw in Ned as a human sacrifice.

Looked good for a while, but ended up as a True Blue Royals move.......time to blow it all up.

After what has turned out to be a disastrous trade by Dayton and his huge failures in the draft and with AA and AAA being almost completely empty he's gotta go. No idea where to go from here............new ownership would help.

But we can go round and round on this. Ex: We're not in position to win now because Moose has been terrible and Butler has underperformed.

But Hosmer's overall numbers are OK. Same with Gordon. Moose is the true disaster, and anyone who didn't know that 2B and RF would be terrible this year is out of touch.

This....we need Moose and Hosmer to be 30+ HR guys, and Butler to be a 25-30 HR guy. I have no ideas what happened to Butler? He should have built on last season.

Regardless of his career stats, Shields has pitched like a 1 most of this first half. Moose and Hosmer were entering their 3rd seasons, Butler and Gordon are in their primes and coming off great seasons. Holland had established himself as a top closer. Perez is a beast at catcher. The only really stupid move was leaving Francoeur in there.

But that's the crux of the trade argument. Were the Royals better off with Shields and a negative WAR player in RF, or would they have been better with Myers and a FA pitcher, using the same money applied to Shields? Statistically, most thought it was going to be a wash, barring Davies not being something spectacular.

Oh, but spectacular he's been. And, in true Royals style, we've mortgaged the future for mediocrity in the present.

But in theory we have been trying the exact opposite of what we did for this year and that hasn't worked either over a long stretch of time. Normally keeping prospects, and they either fizzle out (some make it) but we never having starting pitching to contend. Or we make a trade/sign for two frontline pitching guys, trade a prospect who might fizzle out, but our offense goes to shit.

Seems like damned if we do and damned if we don't. Plus, we are never near as talented as we like to think we are.

Probably true, which points to systemic flaws within the organization, as Hamas was arguing the other day.

You may have the Royals and Chiefs confused. I cant recall the Royals mortgaging (or even risking) the future before the Shields trade.
