*.* 2013 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2013! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

**From the 2012 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

You'd probably to have to be riding your bike for many hours daily for it to be an issue for your downstairs.

Yep, MAJOR PROBLEM.

Riding a bike for 5 hours a week isn't going to make your dick not work.
That's not a small percentage.

Riding a bike is better than not exercising, but it's not running.

This is all true. I do a lot of biking. Proper fit is very important. Most people buy a bike & use the saddle that came with it until they get rid of the bike. My mountain bike was causing some pain in the junkular region a few years ago. I purchased a new saddle & everything was fine. Like the article says, you need a fit that has you sitting on your sit bones and not your taint. (I may be paraphrasing)

For people who aren't significantly overweight, running actually benefits your knees, too. It can stimulate cartilage repair.

I put biking under the "healthy hobby" category...similar to playing basketball, golfing, etc. It's good exercise, but you've got to be pretty intense if you expect it to see physical changes to your body from it.

So I'm looking for a good routine to start....but I'm trying to find something that is going to work with the equipment I have.

A weight bench similar to this one (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Weider-Pro...Bench/17804185)
Free Weights - around 300+ lbs of plates
Curl bar and dumbbell handles
Treadmill
Bike

Any good websites for putting together a weight lifting routine for what I have? I don't have a membership to a gym.....so I'm trying to figure out something to do with what I have.

Pain in the ass....I know.

pick up some cheap squat stands and you can pretty much jump into any routine you want. I would start off with some sort of an upper/lower split done 4x week.

I use map my run when I bike. I did a 25 mile ride yesterday in 1:53, averaged 13.2 mph, and burned 2200 calories.

I don't run. After I had my left knee scoped in December my dr told me that my left knee pretty much has no cartilage left, so I had to give up basketball, and running. My running was mostly sprinting.

I also ride a mountain bike, take a lot of hills, and trails, some on road stuff. Its an intense fun work out. Put the ipod in, and go.

Can you recommend any forearm workouts?

Find a fat chick, raise her up on the wall, and bang her. That will be a great full body work out. Should give your forearms a great work out having to lift her belly out of the way repeatedly.

That's a hell of a friendly bike computer you got there. I did a 22.4 mile ride on Saturday in 1:29:00 (that's 14.9 mph) and only burned about 1300 calories. Did a 35 miler in late july in 2:30 and I'm pretty sure I didn't even hit 2200 calories on that one.
