He's done several. He directed Of Gods and Men and even got Ethan Phillips, Garrett Wang, and a few of the old war horses (Nichols, Koenig, and even that captain from Generations who played Cameron on Ferris Bueller's Day Off) to join in on that.

Granted... Of Gods and Men still screams "fan project" when you look at it no matter who's in it. It's not even that bad production-wise. It's just... boring. And not the Star Trek Motion Picture kind of boring either. Like... not being interested in or caring about the plot kind of boring.
