Royals fans knew they were watching a once-in-a-generation athlete. Now, ESPN’s Sport Science has weighed in, naming former two-sport superstar and Royals outfielder Bo Jackson the “Greatest Athlete of All Time”. The Sport Science study looked at many attributes, including speed, power and reaction time. Jackson earned the nod from the Sport Science panel, beating out the legendary Jim Brown.

ESPN will air a “Sport Science Greatest Athlete of All Time” special next Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 CT.

A poll is currently online at ESPN.com, with Jackson and Michael Jordan in a close race for the fan vote :

Jackson didn't show up for the team that drafted him. He's disqualified.

Plus, he played parts of four seasons and made one pro bowl. About 2,000 NFL players laugh at his stats.

he was the first pick of the draft by the Tampa bay buccaneers. round 1, selection 1. he didn't report and the raiders drafted him the next year in the 7th or some later round and he signed with them. Tampa got zilch and lost the #1 pick.

it was the same garbage that smellway did and started. by refusing to sign with the weak team that drafted him, Jackson got rewarded and got to play for a strong team, which gives him better stats comparatively. and the raiders end up getting the #1 draft pick essentially for free when you know they were talking to him under the table. if people knew he was planning to re-enter the draft he wouldn't have been drafted so late.

now imagine being a chiefs fan in that era. the broncos got a free qb who was the #1 pick by cheating and now the raiders get a #1 pick for the cost of only a late round pick. it was ridiculous how badly the concept of fair play was being abused by those two teams and is why many fans will always despise the broncos and raiders.

Nobody at ESPN has heard of a guy named Lebron James? Also, Barry Sanders and Allen Iverson would be my 2/3. I'd put Jim Brown as greatest RB ever, but not greatest athlete.

Looking at the list, I'd have to give it to Bo. I was there when he threw out the runner at home Dr. Fever mentioned. What about the All-Star game when he hit a homer on a pitch in the dirt. Yes, I'd have to say he's the best of the modern era. All-time, I don't know. I'd have to consider Jim Thorpe in that mix.

You left out the part where Tampa sabotaged his senior season of baseball and how he told them after that incident that he would never sign with them so they shouldn't draft him.

It's a good trivia question, too. Who was the only player drafted twice in the NFL draft?

Bo Jackson was the first pick in the 1986 draft and the 183rd pick in the 1987 draft.

It still makes me mad to think about that. You know the Raiders were talking to him while he was in Tampa Bay's control, and then they ended up paying a 7th-round pick to get the #1 pick in the draft. For that reason I was glad that his career ended early, though to be honest he wasn't making much of a net impact with his prima donna stuff showing up midseason every year and making the Raiders shuffle their plans. I thought the whole thing was a circus that made the NFL look like dumb.
