Yes, if you have a sh*tty car that breaks down a lot. New car no.

I don't pay $100 per year. I pay $59. But yes, it is worth it. I may not need it but it's good for peace of mind.

We pay a fraction of that for equivalent coverage through our insurance provider.
I don't know what AAA offers that we're not getting, though. I can't think of anything. |

FYI... the free towing is only covered for 3 miles from the location of the breakdown.

The other thing is that they offer DMV service which has about 1/100th of the pain in ass factor of the actual DMV. They also have a lot of free travel information, brochures, etc. Well worth it in my opinion. |

incorrect, for normal members it's 5 miles, for Plus members it's 100 miles.

We get the 100 mile towing but didn't pay extra or anything. My wife's car is a pos(she loved it though and wants to drive it until it dies, which I'm cool with as it's been free and clear for years)so it has come in handy several times. I've also used it when I locked my keys in my car and for a buddy that did the same. That's the cool thing, it doesn't only cover your cars. It covers anybody your with at the time as well. Totally worth $60 a year

So I get the tow job thing, but honestly, I've been a AAA member for years, and it saves me at least as much as my membership.
1. discounted movie tickets. Can't go OPENING weekend for Avengers 2, of course, but meh, I get to see at least a couple movies a year with discounted tickets. 2. discounts at certain hotels/motels. 3. I use them as an insurance broker. You can use any other insurance agency, of course, but... 4. I can use them to get/renew passports, and renew my driver's license. VERY convenient. 5. You can use them as a travel agent. You can also get free maps from them, and tour guides. 6. I use them to exchange money for foreign travel. Their fees are better than most banks, but not as good as the exchange rate on a good credit card that can be used internationally. 7. Discounted theme park tickets. 8. Discounts at Dell and HP for computer equipment. This one I haven't used, but I knew there was something and checked online and saw it. Seriously, if you REMEMBER to check the damn discounts, they can really add up. I admit I forget from time to time (pisses me off when I do and realize later I blew it), but it can easily pay for itself. EDIT: Discounted theme park tickets include Disney, Six Flags, Sea World, Universal, and some local ones near Boston that you guys would never have heard of. Might have similar ones for those near KC for you guys. Savings on movie tickets averages $2.50-$3.00 per ticket. Multiple movie theater chains available. And an interesting discount I never knew about -- Penske truck rentals.
