Time for another tournament: favorite movie scenes.

Edit: The Tournament Is Now Underway and no more nominations will be accepted after Post 498. Look for the SceneItAll Tournament Threads.

I saw two movies today that featured iconic scenes: Big, with the piano dancing scene, and Risky Business, with the underwear dance.

It got me wondering about my favorite movie scenes, and I thought it would be a good tournament topic. So this is the nomination thread. Tell me your favorite movie scenes.

The rules:

1. A scene is generally defined as a segment in a particular place and time, continuous in presentation.

2. A scene should be no more than about three minutes in length.

3. I debated on what adjective to use. Most memorable scene? Best scene? I ended up landing on "favorite scene", because that lets you select based on your own feelings.

4. Probably no porn scenes since they would automatically win.

5. We're talking scenes, not lines. So your nomination needs to be at least one minute long unless you can argue that it's a full standalone scene that's shorter.

I'll likely do this as a brutal one-on-one single elimination tournament since I expect to get a lot of nominations. However, I could change this once I see what we have lined up.

I'll start by nominating the following:

- the piano dancing scene in Big

- the underwear dance in Risky Business (sorry about the ad - starting at 0:32 in this clip)

- the scene staring into the Seurat painting in Ferris Bueller (from 0:53 to the end of this clip, though they cut it off a little too soon)

- the Ferris Bueller parking attendants flying in the Ferrari

- Forrest Gump deciding to stop running (5:08 to 6:37 in this clip)

Haven't seen the movie, but caught this scene by accident flipping channels. Couldn't stop laughing all night.

So I'm waaay late to this thread and I'm not going to go through hundreds of posts, but I'll list mine which I'm sure most of which have been listed already.

(no particular order)

1. Godfather -- horse scene
2. Godfather -- final scene, with Michael at the church
3. Godfather -- Sonny gets gunned down
4. Princess Bride -- "the wine in front of you"
5. Princess Bride -- "you killed my father, prepare to die. STOP SAYING THAT!"
6. Casablanca -- final scene
7. Scarface -- final scene
8. Shawshank Redemption -- final scene (might be too long, but I'd start with him escaping)
9. Green Mile -- final scene
10. Princess Bride -- "I am not left-handed"
11. Singing in the Rain -- Singing in the Rain
12. Singing in the Rain -- Moses Supposes
13. LoTR, Fellowship -- Balrog scene
14. LoTR, Return of the King -- Battle of Pelennor Fields (i.e. big fight at Minas Tirith)
15. The Avengers -- Hulk/Loki
16. It's a Wonderful Life -- final scene
17. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington -- final scene
18. Empire Strikes Back -- "I'm your father"
19. Return of the Jedi -- Battle of Endor / Ewoks

Just kidding

19. Return of the Jedi -- Luke/Vader
20. Dr. Stranglelove -- "Has he got a chance?! HELL YES, he's got a chance......chance....."
21. Gypsy -- "Mama this is MY LIFE!"
22. The Searchers -- final scene
23. Rio Bravo -- final shootout
24. The Quiet Man -- dragging the wife through to the final fight with his brother-in-law

I'll stop there.

Am submitting this actually 4 parts in a 10 min clip. First the half time speech that sets up the scene the Little Giants gain a yard. From that the Little Giants score there first TD & go on defense when Becky gets on the field and clobbers a kid forcing a fumble and Little Giants recover the football.

Really we should bring these kids in for a look.

Notice the use of the color yellow - Pippin's owners shirt, Alex Kitner's mom's hat, Kitner's raft, the old guys towel. Yellow = danger. I also love the way the scene is shot where it blocks your view of Brody to reflect his blocked view of the ocean.

The escape

I'd say these scenes are NSFW.

For your No. 2, I think you should consider breaking that into two parts: the baptism scene (the one I think your'e talking about) and the final scene with Michael and Kay when Michael officially becomes the Don. And both are worth a spot in your top 5, IMO.
