Yep, and that's why the Big 12 is interested in sharing it with you.

Yes, but those lost populations don't automatically translate to new SEC fans, they bring their old loyalties with them. This goes to further my point. The reason the BTN is successful is because their alumni and fans are migrating out of the area. Now, their kids might grow up SEC fans...

I'm not suggesting that they will become SEC fans, just that the upside of the SEC network will only increase over the years.

On field success is not the same thing as TV market share. SEC absolutely has rabid fan support, but they don't have the actual numbers the B!G can draw on.

Further, the structure is a bit different and you're assuming two networks are just going to hand over money on property they already own. They have clauses for look-ins, not complete renegotiations. There will be a bump to be sure, but I would be surprised if it is something astronomical. All the networks have to do is point to the last national championship game ratings. SEC TV sets do not guarantee national appeal. Their alumni genrerally stay in the South whereas the B!G alumni have branched out more towards the warmer climates yet retain their B!G sports preferences. That's why the BTN is so successful.

Its also why the SEC is more concerned about the Big 12's possible expansion. Its not because of FSU, its because Virginia Tech might be interested, especially if you have a four school defection. If V Tech were approached independently by both the SEC and Big 12, the SEC would win. But, if the possibility became available that, say, FSU, Clemson, G Tech and V Tech could all go together to the Big 12, that might appeal to them more.

TV markets are why teams would be crazy to leave the ACC. Arguably, the ACC has a foothold in 12 of the largest 30 markets. And, fwiw, Charlotte (24) and Raleigh (27) were probably the two fastest growing markets of the last decade. I don't expect either to slow down much in the near future either.

I still think everyone stays in the ACC and they simply renegotiate in five years or whenever they add teams 15 and 16--whichever comes first. And if FSU, Va Tech, or Ga Tech or Miami compete for a national title between now and then, they'll help everyone out considerably. With FSU losing four of their last six games to Wake Forest, I don't think that they have much to complain about...

Moving now is penny wise, pound foolish.

An official announcement is expected to day that the SEC and Big 12 will agree to play against one another in a post season bowl if neither of their teams are conference champions but not selected for the post season 4 team playoff. An unlikely event, but it is a backhanded way of saying these two conferences do not support the "conference champions only" model and hints at future "strategic partnerships".

You have to tip your cap to Chuck Neinas.

He's done an absolutely fantastic job of guiding the B12 through this and bringing them squarely into the fold as the 4th conference in.

Dan Beebe was driving that conference directly into a mountain and Neinas has come in, steadied the ship and really done a nice job of getting things turned around in a short period of time.

Where it looked like the ACC was likely to take that 4th spot for no other reason than the incompetence of B12 leadership, they've now effectively been relegated to a 'basketball conference' with the Big East being essentially irrelevant.

It's actually starting to look like the SEC/Big 12 may still meet even if both make the playoffs, with the #2 teams meeting.

Tony Barnhart just tweeted it is a 5 year deal.

IMO this is basically a playoff pact for a top 1-4 seed to go against the Big Ten/PAC's push for conference champs model.

Yep, the announcement just clarified that if either or both champs are selected for the playoffs, this new bowl will move down to take the #2 SEC/Big 12 team.

Many people presumed it would be the sugar bowl, but since the announcement didn't specify a bowl, there are now rumors flying around that maybe the 2 conferences are getting paid a ton of money to have the game at Jerryworld.

The Big 12/SEC already has a high-end deal for the Cotton Bowl, wouldn't surprise me if they line up for the best 2nd-tier bowls too, leaving the ACC aced out with crap bowls against whoever.

Not to be outdone, the Big East and ACC have announced that their champs will play at your high school if you’ll have them.

For all of you worried about KU and MU playing then judging by this arrangement there should be no issue with them meeting again soon.

Yeah, no. KU has a ways to go with their football program. Love the optimism, though.

But feel free to take us on as a non-con. We're game.
