Metallica is on another level than those bands. Try Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin.

They were SO big, that yes, they are still living off those golden years.

as a guitar player who at one time could play all songs from memory through Black, I can understand if they went a different direction. After years of playing that style of music, I got burned out.

Artists, especially long lasting artists, tend to grow and change. Metallica has had several lineup changes over the years, which tends to change the band dynamic and musical direction.

My comment was merely directed at the notion that Metallica hasn't done anything noteworthy since 1986, which to me is hysterical.

It's the whole "Well I liked them before they were cool!" cliche. And for some reason, Metallica has a legion of "haters", even though their record sales and concert draws clearly dispel that notion.

oh no, I agree. I think their music has changed, not necessarily for the worse IMO, as they too probably got burned out playing the stame style for over a decade.

They're by far on par with Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Pink Floyd in terms of sustainability and longevity. (as others have mentioned)

They're very different because unlike those bands, Metallica continues to release new music and sell out huge concert venues.

Zeppelin hasn't release a new studio album since the late 70's, Pink Floyd hasn't released a studio album with it's most important member since 1980 and Van Halen has only released three albums in the past three decades, each with a different singer.

Metallica's on a completely different level.

Hmmm, I wonder if Roger Waters came back to Pink Floyd, and they made a new album, and it sucked holy balls...I wonder if they would still sell out huge concert venues?

Wow, judge much? Guess I didn't read too much into your post.

There is no cliche here. As you admit, they changed. When things change, people tend to react. Your whole "in before cool" interpretation is nothing but a petulant defense from someone trying to justify his own opinions. Guess what. I don't give a **** if you like new Coke or old Coke. I don't give a **** if you like new Metallica or old Metallica.

The fact that you can't understand how personal tastes may differ from popular opinion is very telling of the industry you represent. I can't tell if you're really this hypocritical or if you're just trying to stir shit.

I'm not judging anyone. As I've said multiple times, I find it comical.

I never judged anyone for their musical taste. I said, once again, that I find it hysterical that the most vocal Metallica fans on the internet are those that believe that they haven't done anything noteworthy since 1986.

First off, I don't "represent" any industry. Secondly, you need to re-read my posts because you are clearly misunderstanding them. And finally, stop being so emotional about a band.

I remember riding in a 1972 Chevy on the way to football practice with some tallica playing. Still sounds good to me and it seems like they are doing well. Yeah **** them through the napster phase, but they had some good tunes on death magnetic.

While Iron Maiden's music is a matter of opinion, they do not sell out 80,000 seat stadiums worldwide. Iron Maiden's latest tour consists of smaller concert venues, mostly at casinos in the U.S.

Not that's there's anything wrong with that.
