****Official **** You Mike Mayock Thread**** (OP UPDATED)

http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap1000000140130/

The Kansas City Chiefs need a quarterback, but there aren't any this season that look like a top-ten talent, much less a No. 1 overall pick.

The way Mike Mayock sees it, the Chiefs should be looking to the offensive line for their first overall pick. And there are only four players worth the No. 1 overall pick in this draft for Kansas City: Alabama guard Chance Warmack, UNC guard Jonathan Cooper, Texas A&M tackle Luke Joekel, or Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher.

Mayock said on a conference call Monday that some people will say he's crazy to potentially take a guard at No. 1 overall, but Mayock says Warmack is the best player in this draft. So he doesn't see it as crazy at all.

In the end, Mayock believes the pick could come down to Joekel or Warmack. This is a draft where the top-shelf players don't stand apart too much, and there may not be a huge difference between picks 5 and 25. That makes it a tricky spot for the Chiefs.

Don't be surprised if Kansas City builds from the inside out, and finds their quarterback of the future later.

He gives the Chiefs 4 options at #1 and they're all offensive lineman? Go **** yourself bro

@Jacobs71: Here is what Mayock said on #Chiefs pick in full "Well, part of it depends on what they're going to do with free agency and Branden Albert."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think the answer to that, obviously, is going to give you the answer. Sitting where they are, let's face it, they need a QB."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"We don't know that there are a lot of people who think Geno Smith is in that ballpark."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't, but there are a lot of people that think he should be considered."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"When you look at what they're going to do, what are they going to do with Dwayne Bowe?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" Whoever the quarterback is, they need a wide receiver. And I think John Dorsey has to be thinking what is the big picture here?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I've got one, and I've got 34. What is the best combination of getting the most value out of that?"

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"And I think that offensive lineman at 1 is the most solid guy they can go with."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I don't care whether it's Warmack or Joeckel. People will tell me I'm crazy that a guard can't go No. 1."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think he's the best player in the draft, so I would argue that."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" But either way, I think they've got to get an offensive lineman and come back at 33 and prepare to go with a QB or WR."

@Jacobs71: When I asked Mayock about who fits Reid's system at QB: " I think Matt Barkley makes a lot of sense."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" He's a guy as a junior at USC looked so much different than he did this year."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"With Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson, I think all three of those guys you have to go back and watch junior tape. "

@Jacobs71: Mayock:" So I think Barkley fits what he does. I think Ryan Nassib fits what he does."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"I think Landry Jones and Tyler Wilson both can fit what he does."

@Jacobs71: Mayock:"So of those, that group of guys of the top seven, eight quarterbacks, I think those are the guys that did it most efficiently."

Reid's offense last year had his Qb in teh shotgun over 75% of the time. You think it will really matter?

Footwork. Nassib and Glennon (and Barkley but he won't throw) all have years of experience in the 3,5,7 step drop whereas Geno has had a month to refine his footwork.

Barkley has played in the WCO for 4 years. He knows all the terminology, designs, etc. I think he will easily impress the most in football knowledge to Reid in the interviews since we will run the WCO.
The thing is, Glennon and Bray will excel at the deep ball drills. Geno will finish right behind them.

Barkley may come in first at the interview part but Geno will finish right behind him.

When you take the entirety of the combine, you will guys like Glennon and Bray that were the best at 1 or 2 things but the WORST at 1 or 2 others.

Geno may not be THE best at any 1 drill but he will be above average to impressive in ALL of them.

Nick Foles took 3/4 of his snaps out of the shotgun last year.

Another thing that bothers me about Barkley, is that while he is very football intelligent, he still threw alot of INT's this year.

Of course, so did Matt Ryan, his last year, but he also didn't have the skill players Barkley did.

The high amount of INT's concern me.

It's not FO personnel evaluators.

It's the OVERWHELMING amount of anti-QB rhetoric that is literally everywhere - on ESPN and NFLN, on the radio, on message boards, on Facebook.

If you try to "tune in" at all, even just to see if we've signed any free agents, you're BOMBARDED with it.

It's quite demoralizing.

I think you can say that for multiple guys honestly.

I just don't see that.

It's why I probably like Geno more than the others, collectively, all skills involved I think he's better.

No, you really can't. Maybe if Barkley was throwing, but he's not.

The only guys that have a chance to be near the top in EVERY drill are Geno and Tyler. Bray is stupid. Glennon is stiff. EJ Manuel is...EJ Manuel.

It's draft season, with Twitter, the ratings game, and attention in general all of this is expected. You just got to hold on to logic and the FO's past draft history reassure that point.

Barkley could really be ****ed even if he has a decent pro day, because if he starts as a rookie the oppositions defense are going to hammer his throwing shoulder like crazy since it's already been this big of a problem for him. The defense will smell blood in the water and attack that shit.

Having been a fan for so long, it's hard to be re-assured with anything.

Logic very rarely seems to be strongly intertwined with Kansas City's decision making...
