Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

Against better competition this year, Geno hasn't played as well. He hasn't made good decisions consistently and has forced throws.

Maybe it's because he's pretty much forced to make plays with a defense that is awful, or maybe he's overmatched. Time will tell.

The primary problem, imo, is scheme. The plays take too long to develop down the field for a real defense.

It may very well be scheme. But I will say against TCU, on the few deep balls I saw him throw, they weren't very good.

I've seen him throw it deep before, but that day his deep ball wasn't very good.

Yea, it definitely wasn't a showcase performance.

They all have them.

Go look at Barkley versus Stanford or Syracuse this season. (Actually, you should watch that game to look at Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib. Like that guy a lot and would like to see the Chiefs pick him up in about Round 3.)

Wilson wasn't particularly pretty against Rutgers and Ole Miss.

And I consider TCU's Dick Bumpas to be one of, if not the best, defensive coordinators in all of college football.

And I still didn't see anything out of Geno that showed he didn't have the tools or that the previous 2 1/2 seasons were a fluke. The guy threw for three touchdowns against one interception against the #2 ranked defense against the pass/interceptions in TCU.

It's like the ****ing sky is falling around here.

Jesus the guy threw three TD's and put his team in a position to win the game.

He completed less than 50% of his throws iirc. His one pick was an awful throw into double coverage as well. One of his tds was an awful throw into double coverage that the wr made a play on and one was a shovel pass to Austin that he took the distance.

He's a fine player and I think he has a great upside but let's not act as if Saturday was some great performance. It was a game where his defense, bad as it is actually got some stops too

It's unreal how shitty his team is outside of the 2 stud WR's.

At one point in the game, West Virginia ran it up the middle on 2nd and 1. Got stuffed. Then ran it up the middle on 3rd and 1. Stuffed again. Then on 4th down they get the punt blocked and returned for a TD. Then on the first play after the kickoff, the OL gets called for holding.

Nobody can carry those scrubs. Not even Luck or RG3 for crying out loud.

Well, like I said, Geno is a risk and we're just now seeing that. It's an interesting decision in that Barkley is a sure thing but he probably has the ceiling to be nothing better than a fringe top 10 QB, whereas Geno has boom/bust written all over him but if he booms he could become elite.

The leadership issue is one I would definitely, definitely look into and we can't look past it. I don't know what his personality is. But how a QB interacts with reporters is very important. It sends a message to your team. And it also likely says a lot about how he deals with teammates. For example... I would say that Cam's stupid comments a few weeks ago, were pretty damn revealing about who he is as a leader.

He was at 60% completion against TCU.

32/54
260 yards
3 TD's
1 Int
114.3 Rating

And he gave them a chance to win. TCU made a two point conversion in the second overtime.

And I'm not saying it was a great performance. I don't think anyone is. Everyone is saying it was his worst of the year. If that's his worst, which it most likely was, then that's pretty good for having your "worst" game of the year.

I am all for a QB, but I guess I just haven't seen enough college football this year, I know all the hype around Smith, but I finally got to watch his last couple games and I was underwhelmed...

I know those were his worst performances but he looked pretty mediocre to me.. and I really didn't like seeing Bucky Brooks compare him to Jason Campbell..

As a Mountaineer fan, sadly this team just doesn't have the tools to make Geno look all that great outside of himself. He has the tools and this year they seemingly have come together. I have fully admitted that I was not a huge fan until this season, but I have to admit that I may have been critiquing his play based on an inflated opinion of this team as a whole his entire career.
I along with a state full of fans has underestimated the Big 12 talent wise and the divide between it and the Big East. I went into the season with guarded optimism thinking WVU could finish close to the top and completely missed.
I've also come to the conclusion that those comparing this team to Baylor last year or even RGIII is a bit unreasonable. Geno and RGIII simply are not that similar in playing style or athleticism, Geno is no slouch but RGIII is a special kind of athlete. Geno has the tools to match him in the passing game, but its not close running wise.
And this team isn't as good as Baylor last year. This WV team is young and thin at skill positions and hasn't yet caught up with the Big 12.
Holgerson hasn't figured out what's wrong with the offense and while Deforrest and the D finally had a decent game, special teams and inconsistency on offense let them down. Holgerson has yet to live up to his pedigree offensively speaking for any amount of time and is still growing as a HC.

Why should I take anything you say seriously? You don't know what a prevent defense is.
