2nd largest city in Iraq controlled by ISIS. Army Fled

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-27778112

Quote:
Islamist militants have seized key buildings of Mosul, effectively taking control of Iraq's second largest city.

Overnight, hundreds of men armed with rocket-propelled grenades, sniper rifles and machine-guns seized the provincial government's headquarters.
They also destroyed several police stations before moving towards a top-security prison and military airport.

Iraq's parliamentary speaker said "terrorists" now controlled all Mosul and called for troop reinforcements.

The BBC's Jim Muir in Beirut says militants from ISIS have been informally controlling much of Nineveh province for months, imposing tolls of the movement of goods and demanding protection money from local officials.
Now, after five days of fierce fighting around key buildings, it seems they have effectively taken control of Mosul, which has a population approaching two million, our correspondent adds.

An interior ministry official admitted that soldiers had fled after removing their uniforms, telling AFP news agency: "The city of Mosul is outside the control of the state and at the mercy of the militants."
Apparently, they've freed 1000's of prisoners. Reports saying they're using cranes and bulldozers to knock down army posts, police hqs, etc.

Obama IS putting boots on the ground in Iraq. Please note that isn't being used now and is now "no combat troops" instead.

Obama's withdrawal from Iraq was obviously just his inverse version of "Mission Accomplished".

Don't agree with you on Cheney, but have to side with you here on the WWII history.

Some really interesting material out there on the proposed invasion of Kyushu. Once U.S. Soldiers reached the Japanese mainland, plans were in place for them to use chemical weapons against our troops in violation of treaty (even the Nazis hadn't violated that treaty). They were actively training women and children on that island to use knives and sticks to take down soldiers when they weren't expecting it. Further, the firebombings we subjected them to were really just as horrific for the tens of thousands who died in them and that was the alternative.

I'm just going to throw whatever weight I have here behind "The Japanese were in no way trying to surrender." That's a ludicrous concept.

Are you feeling depressed? 'The cure for depression.' (Paraphrasing)

ISIS posted a recruiting video on Friday encouraging Muslims around the world to join in their jihad in Iraq and Syria. It features Australian and British jihadists urging Muslims living in the west to flee their countries. 'Wake up and be part of the effort.'

I love when one jihadi says, 'You have to ask yourself what prevents you from joining the ranks of the mujahideen? What prevents you from obtaining martyrdom? You are going to die anyway.'

I guess he has a point - We're going to die anyway...j/k

Another jihadist asks 'Are you willing to sacrifice the fat job you’ve got, the big car you’ve got, the family you have?'

A 'brother' sitting next to him says, 'We understand no borders....We have participated in battles in Sham (Syria)....'We will even go to Lebanon and Jordan, wherever our Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi wants to send us.'

A fourth man has a message for the US...

It seems as if they are asking people to join the Salvation Army.

https://t.co/RL8ivpNqVZ Well produced HD video, and in English...

Wow: http://www.businessinsider.com/megyn...ox-news-2014-6

Quote:
Kelly proceeded to fire off a list of Cheney's claims and pronouncements from his time at the White House that ended up being disputed or outright wrong: that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, that U.S. soldiers would be "greeted as liberators," that the Iraqi insurgency was "in its last throes" in 2005, and that extremists would have to "rethink their strategy of jihad" after the U.S. intervention.

"Now, with almost 1 trillion dollars spent there, with 4,500 American lives lost there, what do you say to those who say you were so wrong about so much at the expense of so many?" Kelly said.
I gotta give it to Fox. Maybe they aren't as one-sided as I've thought.
