What to see in Colorado

Frontier just opened up service to our local airport and was offering crazy cheap fairs to Dungver so I jumped on them.

My 19 year old son and I are flying out in early August for 5 days.

Looking for ideas on what to do and see, especially in the mountains. Scenic train rides, etc.

It will be like freaking Disneyland at that time of year, but you really should probably head to Estes Park for Rocky Mountain National Park if you're flying into Denver. You can do some amazing hikes and see some great sights very easily. There are probably better experiences to be had out there, but that will offer the most, imo, "bang for your buck."

Someone else suggested Ft. Collins (I lived there for a while), and it really is a great place. You can base out of there instead of the Denver insanity and do trips up to RMNP as well as up the Poudre Canyon to see some great shit. Raft the Big Thompson or the Poudre as well. One of the cool things about Ft. Collins is that you can just drive up the Poudre Canyon and have your pick of fantastic hikes. If you do Poudre, be sure to check out the Mishawaka for some midday grub and possibly live music. Really unique experience.

Went to Colo in late April.
I enjoyed many craft brews at many brewpubs.
I enjoyed a good soak at Glenwood Springs.

You could climb Capitol Peak. Just be careful of the Knife Edge section.

I don't think the city of Boulder has changed that much, but Boulder County is unrecognizable from 20 years ago. When the city decided to stop growth, it pushed all of the growth out into the county. Pretty much everything east of Boulder in the county is a subdivision now, it seems.

So many things to do. Not just the dispensaries. If you are spending more in dispensaries than other things while there. Then you are going to be missing out on so many things. Just my opinion.

Some things that haven't been mentioned are, Mt Evans. The highest paved road in the U.S. Catch a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Visit Garden of the Gods. Drive down to the Springs for Pike's Peak. Visit Denver's Nature & Science museum. Walk through City Park. 16th Street Mall. The boring U.S. Mint. So many things to do.

I used to live in ft Collins and poudre park, the mountains along the cashe LE poudre river have fantastic scenes and fishing/hiking. Estes park is a bit further but even more beautiful. All the ski resorts are good sights snow or not. And there we plenty other things in Colorado I don't know about. Have fun!!!!
