Flooding!

Serious flooding in the Chicago area today. Rivers flooded, several interstates flooded, streets flooded everywhere, schools closed. I can't get to work because I can't get to the train platform (tunnel under the tracks flooded, roads to the other side flooded, fence blocks the tracks on the top). Worst I've seen it in years. And it's still raining like hell.

I am about 20 miles northeast of Frazod, and it's crazy. They cancelled all schools in my town (first "rain day" that I can remember) and are handing out sandbags to people. Luckily I am near the top of a hill so standing water isn't a huge concern.

Last night I got really freaking lucky though. It had been raining so much so I decided to check on my sump pump and noticed the backup sump had been running. Upon further inspection, the primary sump had crapped out (only two months old). Luckily, the plumber that installed it came out within 20 minutes and installed a new one. Given that at 4 am this morning, both sumps were running nonstop, it's a lifesaver that I got that primary replaced or I would be doing laps in my basement right now.

The 25' deep pond I built last fall had about 3' of water in it over the winter. It filled to the overflow pipe last night.

Here’s a handy site that keeps track of the water level, flow into and out of Redman which is feeds the Neosho.

http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/JOHN.lakepage.html

Even with all this rain it still hasn't filled the conservation pool, that got down to <40% of capacity last summer, and we need to be up in the flood control pool.

At least you're getting rain. We've been behind massively too, and we're not catching the rain that they are east of Great Bend.

We are lucky that were are getting the soft rains. I mean its been everyday, but not inches upon inches.
My lake finally filled up and looks so much better. Keeping a close eye on the river levels though. If it continues going up I got to clean my basement out to prepare for the floods.

Best site to track river levels.

We are in pretty good shape out here.

I emptied my 5 inch rain gauge again this morning, as it was full and overflowing. I had emptied yesterday as well. The water was starting to breach the curb this morning, then the village diverted the water drainage and it went down right away.

My lawn should be pretty nice this year, as we have been getting lots of rain now for three weeks. Fortunately we had a couple of nice weekends that allowed me to get the yard work done for spring.

Rausch's basement is also flooding.

Went to get on CP yesterday (barefoot) and noticed floor was wet. Suspected alcohol abuse but as I walked around I noticed I had about a 4 ft area of carpet that was soaked after 3 straight days of rain.

Purchased shop vac and wife spent 3 hours sucking up water while I pretended to take 2.5 to cook "fish soup."

Wife thought fish soup was too spicy - complained even more.

Today more rain (between 1.5 and 3 before the sun sets) and once again wet spot is there waiting to be sucked up.

Wife refuses to use the shop vac because it's my turn. Wife does not realize the fun husband will have tearing out the ceiling, walls, and floor in an effort to find where this leak is once the deluge is over and the pure joy of fixing the problem and replacing what was ripped up.

I would be like a flood if we got even half of a "normal" year of rainfall.

We've gotten a lot of rain the last few weeks. I believe Tablerock Lake if finally back up to Power Pull. We got another 2" plus last night and it's still coming down.

I have a golf tournament Saturday, so the greens should be nice and soft. I like that.
