Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

The issue with Bray is and has always been his age and maturity level.

Last August, Claynus argued that Bray would be a Top Ten draft choice due to his arm strength, which I refuted due to his immaturity and age.

Bray's in a perfect position to have an NFL career, even if it's only as a back up. He can learn from one of the best QB teachers in the NFL and he'll only be 23 years old to start the 2015 season.

The second largest contingent of Super Bowl winning QB's came not from the 2nd - 7th round, but beyond the 7th round. There's a much higher percentage that he'll become a Franchise Super Bowl winning QB than had he been drafted anywhere from 2-7.

Were those kinds of things said in... oh, I don't know... the GENO SMITH THREAD???

Remember, this entire board was crazy during the season for QBs. Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon, Geno Smith... all of them. It was all over the place, but generally kept to its own thread.

I can't really feel sorry for you if you felt shouted down during the regular season. That's your own fault.

And I believe they will. Although, just because you keep drafting first round qbs and missing, guarantees nothing. The browns since 99 have drafted Tim Couch one over all, Brady Quinn, and Brandon Weeden, and will be drafting one again next season.

Touche. Good points.

If Bray had shown any leadership abilities at all, he would of been drafted.

QB talk took over most threads.

The team was shit. The fans were revolting. Our ILB murdered somebody and committed suicide.

Of course the natural course of conversation was going to focus on a new QB. But it was restricted to college QB threads.

You didn't see that shit in the stuff about SOC, and you didn't see it in the Chiefs news threads.

Selective memory.

I'd have to see those numbers again, but I'm dubious about that statistic. The staggering number of college QBs who go undrafted and then get a camp invite would make the percentage of franchise QBs who come from this pool incredibly, incredibly small.

Guys like Staubach, Unitas, Starr, Warner, Johnson, etc. were either drafted beyond the 7th round or signed as free agents.

There isn't a "staggering" number of free agent QB signings. Hell, there have only been 55 QB's taken in the second round since 1967, three of which have won a Super Bowl.

Maybe it sounds like a copout, but without a heaping dose of bitching, bickering and back n forth... this place would SUCK.

It does sometimes go on a bit too much for both sides, but without all of this angst and counter-angst, we'd be bored to tears, reduced to bitching about miley cyrus all day

let's presume that there are only 2-3 udfa QBs per year that stick (a number I don't consider unreasonable, but that's arguable). hell, let's say it's 2.5 for the sake of argument. 1967 to 2013 is 46 years. 46*2.5=115. granted, that doesn't take into account the differing lengths of the draft (went from way over 10 rounds to the current seven during that span), nor the amounts of teams and amounts of roster spots.

as for staggering... depends on your threshold of what 'staggering' is.

hell, it could be argued that staubach was a surefire first rounder if he wasn't at navy--the service committment scared a lot of teams away apparently.

Trivia Question: Staubach was drafted by which NFL and AFL team in the 10th round of each league's respective draft?

There have been 106 QB's drafted in round one since 1967. That's nearly double the amount taken in any other round.

It would require a massive amount of research to figure out how many were drafted/signed beyond the current 7th round configuration since.
