Lol @ Raiders

@AdamSchefter: After a disagreement in OAK on OT Rodger Saffold's physical condition, he is returning to STL to sign a 5-yr contract with the Rams. Wow.o

so what's your point?
That it is always fun to beat them, just more so when they aren't constantly sucking hind tit around the league.

The Raiders are an enigma. Has a team ever fallen so far or fast after making a Super Bowl? They still haven't gotten off the mat from that beating the Bucs put on them.

Cheaps made a great turn around last year from the 2-14 debacle the year before, they were awarded one of the easiest schedules in the NFL like it should be for the worst team in the NFL the year prior... Went into the playoffs as the weakest team in the Playoffs but still a great turn around anyway you slice it.

But overall, yes, we are both dumpster fires right now but I don't think that is gonna last forever for either team.

I hope Oregon is serious and wants the Raiders to move to Portland, I love the Raiders but hate the city of Oakland and everything it stands for socially and politically... Hate LA too... Portland would be a good place for the Raiders..

Anyway, sounds like OAK may have dodged a bullet. Pointless thread is pointless.

Thing is, they were going to overpay for Saffold before even knowing if they wanted him at guard or tackle, if you're going to pony up for someone then atleast have a well thought out plan for why you're bringing him in.

Doesn't sound like they're going about this in a coherent fashion... having said that, we aren't looking so hot these days either.

They vastly, vastly overachieved that year. Look at their coach and their roster. Bill F-ing Callahan. Rich Gannon was 37. Tim Brown was 36. Jerry Rice was 41. Rod Woodson and Trace Armstrong? 37. Bill Romanowski? 36. Charlie Garner was at that precipice for all RBs, 30. Charles Woodson was still young, but injuries kept him off the field for much of the season.

The Raiders were freakin' ancient, and they had an awful coach. It was a miracle of miracles that they made the Super Bowl.

Raiders agreed to terms with OT Donald Penn, formerly of the Bucs.
Five days after the Rodger Saffold fiasco, the Raiders have found their left tackle. Going on 31 with well-documented weight issues, Penn was released by the Bucs last week, but is still a perfectly-fine left tackle. He's a massive upgrade on what the Raiders trotted out after Jared Veldheer's injury last season. However, Penn is not a long-term option for what is still the league's thinnest roster. GM Reggie McKenzie has gotten active in free agency after a quiet first 48 hours, but is throwing all sorts of money at players over 30 years of age. It's not the way to rebuild a team. Raiders signed players around 30 who still have some gas left in the tank, and signed them to cap friendly deals. The players we've signed are stop gap players who will mentor draftees while we rebuild the tea via the draft. Raiders hope that Watson, second round pick from last year, will capitalize on his physical gifts and become the LT of the future. This would require him to actually stay healthy enough to get on the field, hence why we signed Penn.

BTW, Saffold was signed to play guard, not tackle and the only people confused about it were media types who throw crap at the wall hoping something will stick.

Still a lot of work to be done in Oakland, but we are already a better team than last year on paper anyway.

That saffold deal is funny... Imagine how the media would have reacted if the Raiders took Saffold knowing he was damaged goods? All we would be hearing would be how big of fools the Raiders are... We didn't sign his gimp ass because he was damaged goods and you don't spend 42 mill on damaged goods.

He isn't damaged goods. NFL physicals are more rigged than the East German Olympics.
