I don't think Geno Smith translates well in the NFL regardless of where he is. He's a product of that offense, his stats are inflated and when faced with a moderately good defense like Texas Tech, Kansas State or even Syracuse, his ridiculous numbers fell back to earth.
What's he going to do in the NFL if Syracuse can keep him at 200 yds? Most of which came in garbage time.

The Jets had a kick ass draft.

They got:

Best QB in the draft.

Best CB in the draft.

Best 34 DE in the draft.

Best FB in the draft.

And two really nasty, talented offensive linemen in Oday Aboushi and Brian Winters.

And Bill Campbell has a huge upside.

I wouldn't be shocked if six of those guys were starting in August. And their first three picks were on high level playmaker type of guys.

Shit. I would have been happy with Geno Smith, Dee Milliner or Sheldon Richardson with the Chiefs first round pick and the Jets got all three of them.

You can definitely tell that Tannebaum is no longer with that organization. People talk about Ryan, but Mike Tannebaum is the one who is really responsible for the quick slide that the Jets took the past three years. In fact, I'd put him below Pioli in terms of how he ruined a franchise. Horrible, horrible GM.

Superb draft for new NY Jets GM John Idzik.

People talk about Ryan because Sanchez went from a promising young QB to a complete train wreck. That's not Tannebaum's fault. They haven't exactly shown promise at developing skill position offensive players. The best offensive player they've probably had during Ryan's tenure is Thomas Jones.

Sanchez went from a protected USC QB with notable flaws to a shit bag of a QB in the NFL who enjoyed eating hotdogs on the sideline during the game. The only thing promising about Sanchez was his GQ spread and banging high school chicks.

The Sanchize was consistently at the very bottom of all starting NFL QB ratings/rankings every year the past four years competing for the title of "Worst NFL QB" with the likes of Derek Anderson, Jimmy "Small Hands" Clausen and Matt Cassel.

He throws a horrible ball and has no feel for the game.

Tannebaum made horrible trades and personnel decisions and saddled the Jets with a QB with one of the worst contracts ever. His drafts were absolute dog shit. If there was one guy that made Peeholi look even moderately competent, it was Mike Tannebaum.

Sometimes I think the Jets make trades and picks just to keep the media circus around.

I think it would be better for geno to sit for a bit, but I also believe it's not nearly as bad for him as most believe.
It's a terrible situation. Rex Ryan coddled Sanchez and he coddles all his players. That is the wrong kind of coach for a guy like Geno, who I think needs a bit of an attitude adjustment. The media in NY is going to hound him. He's already making immature comments about making the playoffs and seems to have a temper when things don't go his way and that's backed by some whispers leading up to the draft that he doesn't respond well to criticism. That's going to be a tough situation in a market where the NY media is going to hound him and stick cameras in his face after a frustrating loss.

Let's be real. He got thrown into a circus. Kansas City or Cleveland actually would have been ideal landing spots for him. Both would have given him a chance to sit a year, be coached by tough but not asshole coaches, and play in a media market that isn't going to badger him.

Basically, the fans are so pissed off at Sanchez that they're going to pump up Geno Smith. The media are going to pump up Geno Smith so they can create buzz about what the Jets will do with Sanchez. Under pressure, Ryan will probably put Geno in and all of a sudden this raw kid is going to have ridiculous weight on his shoulders to be great right away.

I really do feel bad for the kid. A terrible situation for him. Anyone who's ever followed the Yankees knows how many careers that team has killed because of players who buckled under media pressure. I remember Jim Abbott lost 5 mph on his fastball.
