RAM recommendation

I know just enough about computers to be dangerous.
I do know that I need more RAM, though. I've got way too many programs running for the 250MB of RAM that I currently have installed. I've read in the past that you should use the same kind of RAM when upgrading.
I currently have:
Samsung 256 MB DDR 333MHz RAM 1 module, upgradable to 2GB.

I'm getting ready to head to the local Best Buy and thought I would ask the board for recommendations, tips, etc..

Go up to a 1 GB to run XP and other apps concurrently

Gaming /Database maybe 2GB.

The video card with memory on it really helps gamers. by offloading stuff from main memory.

I'm running 512mb and GForce video with 256mb

Thanks for the help.
I've got a GeForce 4 card with 128MB DDR SDRAM (can you tell I'm reading off the spec sheet).
Do I need to try and find Samsung memory or will any brand work, as long as it's DDR?

usally with ram if something is too good to be true (price wise) it usally is, I sometimes throwdown the extra $$ for quality RAM.

Checkout www.tigerdirect.com the Kingston ValueRAM was a good quality and value buy

zipzoomfly and newegg are generally the cheapest. Just buy DDR 333MHz, my guess is that's the fastest RAM your PC can use properly anyway. Get a pair of 512's or a pair of 256's. You can probably even leave the existing 256 in there and you'd be just fine. 768MB RAM is just fine for 98% of Windows users.

Here's the big kicker when buying RAM: make sure it has a lifetime warranty, then make sure the company has been in business a long time and will still be there. Corsair is a good company, I have lots of their RAM. Their customer service is EXCELLENT. They'll swap out just about anything if they think it even MIGHT be defective. Mushkin was another great company to deal with but their stuff is pretty high end and you do pay for it.

Corsair and Kingston are generally good standards to go by when you are getting RAM. BB usually has a weekly special on one type of RAM, last week it was DDR 400 1Gig of PNy for 89 bucks.
