Royals Sign Willie Bloomquist By Tim Dierkes [January 9 at 12:20pm CST] According to MLB.com's Dick Kaegel, the Royals signed utility man Willie Bloomquist to a two-year deal for about $3MM. Assuming Bloomquist passes his physical today, he'll compete for the second base job. The 31 year-old hit .279/.377/.285 in 192 plate appearances for the Mariners in '08. |

As long as this doesn't affect Ross Gload's playing time, this is an outstanding signing.

Agree completely. If Gload is hurt, he should sit out. Same with Guillen.

Baseball must suck being in a small market. I got the Yanks so I'm spoiled, but I don't know how any of you guys can get into it when you know the big markets can just spend whatever they want and assemble all star teams. Coming from a Yankees fan it is time for a salary cap.

Not necessarily futile, but definitely an uphill climb. Small market teams can and have won before, they just have to get everything right since they can't buy their way out of a situation.
I would love for baseball to adopt a salary cap, a salary floor and revenue sharing, but the union won't let it happen. There is too much money out there for owners to force a lockout so the only way to get there is with baby steps over a long period of time. |

You can't deny that the Yankees have an all star team if that's what you were getting at by putting it in quotations. But we will see after this year. Past few years have been rough, but the pitching hasn't been there. Wang getting hurt killed us last year. Best of 5 series in the first round also give good teams a chance as well. They got the pitching this year and no one is going to beat the Yankees this year if they stay healthy.
