Alex Smith has already been told he's the starting QB in 2013 for the Kansas City Chiefs.

He's been coddled enough. If he wants to keep his job, he'll have to play for it. I hope he does well, but if he doesn't, we've got the solution in waiting.

Smith is a good sport about it, too. See his comment, "I need to go out and earn my contract extension" or whatever it was.

Alex Smith will be fine. It's the Chiefs I worry about.

Show me the rule where a team can't be stacked at quarterback, especially if they work the cap the right way.

And tell me you wouldn't gladly eat the money Chase is owed if Geno turned out to be the real deal?

Good article on NFL.com about Alex Smith.

He said the Chiefs are in a win now mode and he knows if he doesnt win now he will be replaced by someone else.

"The QB position, I'm going to dig in and look at that. We'll build that thing. We'll see how that whole thing works out. I need to spend some time at it. I have to find that next Len Dawson doggone it. I need to find it. It might be right here, it might not."

-Andy Reid

We'll build that thing. Standing pat with Alex Smith doesn't sound like building that thing to me.

More like it tells him he still has to prove a lot and creating great competition at the most important position instead of shitty competitition for a change wouldn't be bad at all.

Reminds me of Pioli's comments last year after the Quinn signing. "I'm going to create competition at the QB position. Oh, but Matt is the starter."

That ****er is going to be in my nightmares for a long time.

This. If you have to coddle the supposed smartest and mentally toughest player on the team, then shit...

He's getting it from the guaranteed money aspect of the deal.

However, if Chase Daniel plays a lot and voids the deal, that's no longer a factor. It's the 2 million dollars remaining on the signing bonus, which is all the Chiefs would be on the hook for in dead money.

It's not "wasting" picks to get a viable starter to help shepherd the team out of the dregs of the NFL, even though he'll never be a franchise guy. You're just renting Alex Smith to win more than 4 games this year and let other players develop without putting pressure on Geno.

It's not "wasting" a pick to develop your dynamic starter of the future.

What the **** is your deal? Why do you have such a hard on for a 9 year vet who is 2-27 when teams score more than three touchdowns in a game? The AVERAGE score in the NFL last season was nearly 23 points a game.

THAT MEANS THAT ALEX SMITH IS 2-27 AGAINST TEAMS THAT ARE LITERALLY 1 POINT PER GAME ABOVE AVERAGE.

Woo ****ing hoo. Lemme buy them Super Bowl tickets now!

**** this is ****ing reeruned. Alex Smith sucks donkey balls.

There's no reason that Alex Smith can't be our QB for a long time even if we draft Geno.

If he plays like a franchise QB, he'll stay a franchise QB. And yes, that means he'll need to crack 4000 yards and more than 17 TDs on a consistent basis. Something I question if he's capable of doing.

You're going to find out in year 1 if he can. Reid doesn't leash QBs. He opens up the offense for just about anyone that's not a rookie.

Personally, I think he can account for around 3500 and about 25-30 TDs.
