If not #1, where?

The draftniks keep saying that Geno Smith isn't worth the #1 pick.
None of them say he isn't the top QB in the class though.
If we don't take him at #1 how far is he realistically going to fall?

I see no scenario where he falls out of the Top 10.

So if he's the top QB in a weak class...
QB is our biggest need...
And he's gonna go Top 10 anyway...

Why not at #1?

Am I wrong to say he won't fall out of the Top 10?

Discuss...

Everyone on this board wants to draft a QB 1st overall just because we haven't done it in forever.
Geno is a huge risk and isn't a sure thing and so is anyone in everyone in this mediocre QB class. Are all QB's a risk? Yes. But when when several NFL scouts question this entire class and say that they feel they aren't very good prospects, you don't draft for NEED and take one 1st overall because you NEED it. I'll take the scouts opinion over anyone on this board. The desperate mindset is amazing on here yikes.

Maybe that's why they want to trade down. Because they know they can get more picks and get a good QB prospect they like in the 6-10 range.

Yep.

Alot of times, it seems its more a mental thing. But, I do think it also has to be a system match with the QB, as some guys excel at some systems others don't.

In the end though, either you ahve it or you don't.

I don't really ****ing care what the combines, pro days, and interviews have to say about the top non QB prospects. They're the wrong pick for the Chiefs at #1, and should be totally ignored unless one of those guys falls deep into the first round and the Chiefs really like the guy.
Let's put it this way: If the best QB grades out at 69 and the best defensive end/tackle/OLB/O lineman grades out at 89, do you think it's in the Chiefs best interest to take that QB?

That's the elephant in the room that no one on Chiefsplanet wants to discuss, at least with ANY civility.

Well, if that works out, fine.

But then you run the risk of not getting the guy you like.

Well, if thats the situation, yeah, take the other guy who isn't a QB.

But we've gotta get a QB somewhere. I'd assume do it in the first round, seems thats usually where the best guys are taken. Usually.

Where it gets fuzzy to me is if you're QB is say an 85 and the other guys are 90. Then I'm not sure what you do.

What if you don't like any of them?

See, that's the REASON for the The Combines: It puts every single player invited on an EQUAL PLAYING FIELD.

From medical to psyche to physical to intelligence to personality to ability, these guys are administered the same exact tests for their respective positions so that they can be scrutinized evenly.

Actually, I do not know that, especially with any certainty.

Everyone one of these guys has issues, which is why there's no clear cut consensus at this time.

It's also possible that they don't grade out as high as some of you guys expect.

Possible.

True.

Although I'm not sure the top QB's will throw at the combine.

If you watch Mitch's interview with Dorsey, he talks about taking the BPA and how it's his philosiphy. He talks about how they kept taking WRs like Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb in Green Bay for example when they didn't need them.

I might get killed for this but, Geno probably isn't the best player available at #1 per Dorsey's terms imo. It is probably Luke Joeckel, Star Lotulelei, or Jarvis Jones. Those guys are probably the best prospects in the draft.

Geno might be the best QB prospect in the draft but, he's probably not going to be the best player on the Chiefs board. For example, Per Dorsey's draft strategy, I believe we would even take Jarvis Jones if he was the best player on the board. Even though we already have Houston and Hali.

I'm sure many won't like it but, he basically said it himself. He doesn't draft for need.

If Smith, Barkley and Wilson fail to throw at The Combine, there's no way any of them go #1 overall.

When is the last time there was a draft where the top QB was rated below 80? The Chad Pennington draft? Was he even ranked below 80?

The only one of those guys who you could argue is BPA is Joeckel. Star is a non pass rushing DL, and Jones has a huge med concern at this point.
