The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

He's not. He's coming here with a guy who can coordinate an offense. Andy Reid has made far less competent QBs look good.

Alex Smith is a significant upgrade.

You really have to see how the draft plays out before you can honestly try to make things equivalent.

Ive already gave up the Geno dream. I just dont want to draft a OT #1. Im hoping for Jordan but I know it will either be Joeckel or Fisher.

Cassel has gotten worse every year since 2010. Since 2010, Alex Smith has played much, much better.

I've hated Alex Smith for a long time prior to this trade, but he's a much better QB than Cassel and it's not close.

He's not my choice for QB, but I'll see how he plays before I crucify him.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. But I am pissed we suck so much ass and walk away with a new LT and Alex ****ing Smith.

That's fair. Ill give him som leeway too. I just worry, and will worry greatly, at the first signs of Cassel like throws and decisions. Hopefully he'll succeed in Reid's system

Trouble is Alex Smith isn't a good starting QB especially when he is forced to throw the ball, which Reid will do. Its mind blowing how awful he is when he had to throw. He did good playing Martyball style but Andy Reid isn't a Martyball style coach.

I'm against taking a LT first as much as anyone...BUT if Albert is indeed gone you have no choice. I did like what I saw from Stephenson, but not enough to go into the season with him as the starter. And I prefer Joeckel over Fisher

Sadly, I think some on this board have forgotten how absolutely HORRIBLE Cassel was at his trade. He was a slow thinker who pretty much had to have WRs wide open BEFORE he would release the stinking ball. Smith is a MUCH better QB. End of story.....albeit a rather short story.

Not completely convinced by concerns about Albert's snaps in an already-lost season.

Smith has started more than 10 games only twice in his career, though, so I'll be shocked if he's able to display an durability of note.
