The John Dorsey Approval Poll, March 2014

I thought it would be interesting to conduct monthly opinion polls of the front office during the offseason. I'm no cdcox, so I figure the best way it to assign various percentages of approval, then average the percentages to get a total approval ranking. Those with a better understanding of statistics could crunch the numbers if a simple averaging would be disproportionately weighted by haters and homers.

80%

that gets cut in half to 40% if the defense is exactly the same swiss cheese it was last year against good NFL QBs.

I like what Dorsey has done so far aside from just a few things that I disagree with.

Injuries really skewed the first year of Dorsey's first draft class. I think players like Kelce, Johnson, and Sanders will really flash if they can stay healthy. Fair or not, many will judge this draft class solely on the production of Fisher. Can't help but wonder how many of the 6 remaining picks will end up being starters in years 2 and 3.

1 (1): OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan
3 (63) TE Travis Kelce, Cincinnati
3 (96) RB Knile Davis, Arkansas
4 (99) LB Nico Johnson, Alabama
5 (134) CB Sanders Commings, Georgia
6 (170) C Eric Kush, California (PA)
6 (204) FB Braden Wilson, Kansas State
7 (207) DE Mike Catapano, Princeton

I still approve of the hire, but his first draft really shook my confidence. Seems to do pretty well with pro scouting.

I bolded the picks that have actually made a contribution so far.
He's going to need some of these guys to break out this year.

Fisher was looking much better at the end of the season, so I think with a full offseason and some more weight he will be good. Commings looked decent in the very short time he played in the one game where he got hurt again, he has a lot of potential. Kush looked pretty good in that SD game, so he has potential. I think the people pronouncing the draft a failure are a little premature.

Honestly, the one you bolded is probably the one that sticks out the most now. The guy couldn't stay healthy at Arkansas and now he's hurt again.

At least Kelce's injury was a freak one.

Fisher was hurt at the end of the season and the offense looked quite a bit better without him. I think assuming he'll be fine is pretty short-sighted but that's only my opinion.

I absolutely agree with you that pronouncing the last draft a failure is premature. I just wish they would have shown some consistency between last offseason and this one...
