Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

what the **** are you supposed to look for, then? A GM/HC who comes in and DOESN'T address the QB position? Doesn't fill holes in free agency? DOESN'T resign pro bowl players? Because clearly ANY parallel to ***** means we're failures.

Everyone is just ****ing butt-hurt about this team not drafting a QB. If we had taken Tyler Bray in the third round, you'd all be shitting yourselves in glee. "Woot! We got our QBOTF! He has all of da tools!" You'd literally be happier if we got the exact same draft, but took the players in a different order.

Fine!

Here's how it went down:

1.1 - Tyler Bray
2.33 - Eric Fisher
3.65 - Nico Johnson
3.96 - Travis Kelce
4.98 - Traded for Alex Smith
5.134 - Knile Davis
6.170 - Eric Kush
6.204 - Sanders Commings
7.207 - Mike Catapano

Braden Wilson UFA

Happy?

Good.

.
Not really.

You can rearrange the picks any which way you like. The Chiefs still left talent on the board and made WTF picks.

Nico Johnson is the only pick that I can truly give a thumbs up to. He fills a hole left by a psychopath who decided to off himself.

I understand the Fisher and Kelce picks but I can't say I agree with them. Why make the Fisher pick if you weren't going to get a deal done for Albert? And did we really need a TE? Felt like a luxury pick when I would have gladly passed on him to trade up for a better ILB.

The rest of the picks I just cant wrap my head around and the Alex Smith trade just makes me want to scream and cry.

The potential ace to this whole draft is the UDFA signing of Tyler Bray but I'm not holding my breath that he becomes Cutler.

Brent Celek is a pretty damn important part of the Eagles' offense. Fasano's a decent enough player, but will the Chiefs get value out of him? He could be a 600-800 yard tight end that's also a valuable blocker. So yeah, for a 3rd round pick, that could be an absolute steal.

Fisher? We already had Albert
Kelce? We already had Fasano and Moeaki
Davis? Charles and 2 other good backs (Andy Reid doesn't even run the rall, does he?)

I am hoping these kinds of moves create a real impact on the teams overall performance, but at this point it's kinda hard to see.

Moeaki and DMC have been blasted by this board for how long?

And now that they have replacements for them you are still bitching.

Haha

You think they are gonna cut Albert when he is on a 9.8 million dollar FULLY GUARANTEED CONTRACT?

I have fears that Moeaki is gonna be an IR/injury settlement type situation...but I cant get any info on him being hurt/injured other than him being the only guy that didn't participate in the workouts.

All I do know is that his k ee was getting sore towards the end of the year.

The price tag for Revis, both in terms of picks and money, was a lot higher than that for Albert. If Revis had been available for anything close to what Albert and the Chiefs wanted, I suspect there would have been several teams interested.

To who?

A team would not only be willing to pay him elite money, they would need to have the cap space to do so and want him bad enough to want to send a premium pick to us for him.

We aren't gonna trade him for a third when we can just play him and let him walk and get a third anyway.

Start going down the list of NFL teams that even have a hole at LT...then cross off the teams that don't have the cap space.

The Dolphins were the only team willing to even talk to Albert about money and they have Bryant McKinnie in town.

Now, if Albert had kept his mouth shut (to the media) about his demands to play left tackle ONLY...maybe some teams would be interested...but the guy painted himself into a corner here.

I'm not sure there is a single team in the whole NFL that has an opening at LT, that has the desire and cap space to sign him...that also can afford to part with a second rounder for a guy with concerns about long term health.

Fisher pick aside. Kelce projects to be a clear #1 at some point. Braden Wilson was an underrated pick for a coach that loves fullbacks. Nico Johnson will start. Commings will contribute and potentially compete to play Safety. Kniles Davis, Kush, and Catapano... we don't know what we have in any of these guys.

Of the picks we kept, it wasn't sexy. No, we didn't take a QB (I would have). But the draft could be a very effective one.
