Adam Schefter chiefs will tag bowe if they cant work out a deal

Evan Silva‏@evansilvaReply

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports #Chiefs will franchise tag Dwayne Bowe if no long-term deal is struck before March 5: http://bit.ly/xkI0cJ

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Chiefs plan to use the franchise tag on free agent Dwayne Bowe.
This is assuming the sides can't reach a long-term deal, which they almost certainly won't before the March 5 franchise deadline. The wideout tag is worth $9.5 million, and Bowe would cost at least $11 million a year to lock up. One GM told Schefter that he anticipates "as many as" 25 franchise tags being used this offseason, largely because the salary numbers are down across the board.

It would be nice to see Bowe with a real quarterback for a season before signing him long term

The 63M was a figure thrown out by someone just adding base salaries.

37M was a figure thrown out by someone who did homework and accounted for everything. Later this number was confirmed by Pioli.

We just signed Routt to just under 7M.

The Chiefs still are near the top in cap space. ESPN was over by around $20 mil for every team. Thy didn't add in bonuses and things like that.

I don't think any cap space numbers being thrown around have been verified one way or the other yet.

$100m is a A LOT to invest in 2 CBs.

I hate to see Carr go, too.

It's looking like the only way we can sign Manning is if he takes less money.

I'm pretty sure that 37 number is after the escalators, performance bonuses and everything else was calculated in....and after Routt was signed.

Also remember that if Peyton is signed, we can save about 5 million more by jettisoning Cassel.

According to a report a day or 2 ago, the financials of a deal for Peyton would work with what we have.

I'd be fine with tag/trade Bowe and signing Wayne to replace him and signing Saturday to plat center...if that's what it would take.

Peyton made literally nonbodies into good receivers in Indy and a trio of Baldwin, breaston and Wayne would be damn good...especially if we can get a premium pick for Bowe.

Peyton makes us a contender immediately in that scenario.

I'd do whatever it took to get Peyton Manning.

20 years is long enough.
