That'd be okay with me, honestly.

I've got so many games I've yet to finish.

I guess there are some conflicting reports or I'm just not reading between the lines enough. The Forbes article seems to state that you can use a game wherever you want, but you'll have to be logged in under your account to actually play it. I'm wondering if this is meaning playing a game WITHOUT the disc at a friends house, but maybe I'm misreading.

The other report is the one I posted earlier from the MS Exec that stated you will have the same capabilities with new/used/rented that you have now.

Somewhat conflicting, but the premise between them is actually the same. If you want to play COD Black Ops II on your friends 360 & he doesn't own it, you'll need the disc.

Hopefully they start trying to clear this up. I can't believe how they have let it get this far unless they really do plan to charge to load teh game on other consoles and they just don't know how to say it to the gaming community.

With the code on a disc format that everyone keeps throwing around it sure sounds like the disk is worthless on another console unless you have access to the profile that purchased it originally.

I think they'll use it as a way to sell more new games and effectively kill the used game market.

You buy COD Ghost or whatever it's called. Download it to your HD. You drunkingly show up at my house one night in pink spandex with the game to play. We download it to my HD, play it all night until CJizzles ruins the evening so you leave & take your disc with you.

I liked the game. It's already installed on my HD but I can't play it. So instead of driving to Gamestop, or WalMart, or wherever - I simply unlock the game on my console never having to buy a disc.

It's actually very similar to how it is now except now you MUST have the disc in order to play.

That completely kills the game rental market though. Trade in values will be even worse now as well.

I still think if they want to push the downloadable market they need to make the games cheaper to purchase online. I find it downright stupid that they charge the same online as they do for in store. Sony addressed that with the Vita making all first party titles $5 cheaper if you purchase it through PSN. Hopefully they carry that forward to the PS4. Hopefully MS does that too.

I think they consider Demos are enough for that. Its too bad they don't put out demos for all games.

How would the game rental market be any different than it is now though?

If the disk is already registered you can't play it on another system without the registering owner therefore killing the rental market.

I would throw used/rental games into the quote below unless there is some way for the One to know the difference between a new, rental or used game.

Wired: So as another example, if I took my disc and went to a friend’s house, would I be able to play that game on his machine?

Harrison:
Yes, you can. You can take your game around to your friend’s house just as you would today — that’s assuming you have a physical disc — and what we’re doing with the new Live technology is that… with the disc, it’s just a repository for “the bits”. You can put that disc into his drive, you can play the game while you’re there, and then you go home and take that disc with you. But actually, “the bits” are still on his drive. If your friend decides that he really likes to play that game, then he can go buy it instantly, and it doesn’t need to download again. It’s already there. Once he’s paid for it, it’s immediately there.

There is something innocuous about that statement. Just seems like something is being left out.

I guess we will see when it finally comes out.

This is where being a PC gamer gives me a weird view on this. I don't care about game rentals, because I've never rented one. I don't care about re-selling games, because I've never resold one. I don't care about all my games eventually being downloads, because they have been for years already.
