Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

As long as it works I don't care... I don't show off my guns to anyone except anon internet people so if I needed it I wouldn't care how ugly it is.

Well, I already have a Glock 27 which is .40

I wanted a 9mm so I don't cry so much as the money flies down the range. And while the LC9 I have is a kickass little gun, I don't want to reload that much at the range. The SR9c will hold 17 + 1 with the high cap mag or can go more compact with the 10 round mag for carry.

It also fits my hand like an old friend that is fun to stroke ;D

So, like I said, I really needed another pistol. =D

Meh. I've purchased and gotten rid of both. I vastly prefer my Springfield to the Glock, and also vastly prefer my H&K USP 40 to the .45 Baretta I had.

When I pick up that STI Trojan I'll probably get it chambered in .40.

Well, I had a blast tonight. Went to a local gun club and did some off-duty police pistol training. Fired drawing from a holster, which I hadn't done since I was a kid. You start empty with 4 mags in holders loaded with six rounds each. First round, you fire two shots from 7 yards (in 4 seconds after the buzzer goes off) and reholster, then two more times, reload and reholster. Next round you go back to 12 yards, fire two center mass and one head shot in 7 seconds twice, reload, reholster, then go back to 20 yards and fire the last twelve rounds in 20 seconds. Then another round at slightly longer distance. Great fun, and it's great for working on your mechanics. Beats the hell out of shooting at a regular range.

I LIKE IT! There are several places in area that offer this and more advanced stuff. I think I've got a new hobby going.

Frazod, if you liked that, you should try competing in IPSC/USPSA. I can draw and fire two rounds in less than 2 seconds. And I am not good. The sport also incorporates lots if movement.

I'm thinking about it. I just don't know if I have the time/money for it.

Same with me and long range shooting. The good shooters go through thousands upon thousands of rounds a year.

I don't have the time to practice enough to compete with those guys.

Yeah, it's a rich man's game. My buddy's going to start reloading and I'll be able to use his equipment in exchange for contributing time and materials, and that will help keep costs down. He's been going to lots of these events, including two and three day events out of town, and really enjoys it. But he also makes more than twice what I do, and I just can't keep up with him in the spending department.

So I'm afraid I'm just going to end up dabbling in it. But still, it's great fun.

So speaking of reloading...223/556 specifically-

Where are the best places to get supplies and, from everyone's experience, what brass, bullets, primers, etc. are the best value?

I would like to be able to pick up once-fired casings at the range and load that way, but from what I can see, that takes a bit more equipment than just the reloading press. So I guess to start out, I'd be buying new or reconditioned brass. And about powder...is there a preferred brand? And how far will 1 lb. of powder go?

Powder Valley in Winfield sales bullets and brass for an outstanding price.

Here is an online store that I purchased a couple thousand rounds from a few months ago:

I recently bought 2000 once-fired .308 brass from a Sniper School in Oregon. Top of the line brass out of a Bolt Action 700 for .18/each.
