2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Toma came to Kansas City in 1957 to serve as head groundskeeper for the A’s and quickly drew praise for transforming Municipal Stadium from a poor playing field into one of the best in the game.

Once the A’s left for Oakland after the 1967 season, Toma continued to oversee groundskeeping operations at Municipal Stadium for the Chiefs. The Royals kept Toma as their groundskeeper when they became an expansion team in 1969.

Toma remained the Royals’ head groundskeeper through 1995 and served two more years as a consultant with the club. He joined Emil Bossard earlier this season as the first two inductees to the MLB Groundskeeper Association Hall of Fame.

Glass could live on Europe and it wouldn't matter if he gave the GM a blank check the way Steinbrenner did.

Steinbrenner had tremendous passion for his club. It's not like he just chilled down in Florida. Dude was too involved, if anything.

Yea, and the connection with the community in Robb's case is constant he is always out and about getting involved.

Hell in the last game him and the SKC's VP were right in the middle with all the drunken rowdies during a game.

Awesome. That ownership group is doing all of the right thing, and thus winning over a lot of fans, including those who really don't give a shit about soccer.

Says a ton about their approach. I can't even begin to imagine what that group would do for the Royals...

You should start a grass roots movement of having skc fans wear Royals shirts to the games to encourage them to buy the team.

Was just listening to Robert Ford on the postgame and apparently he believes we have a new way of getting Myers up here. Basically we need to hope that Cain keeps his injury issue going for a while in Omaha. He was scratched from the lineup yesterday and has only completed 5 innings in each of his two games. Ford basically said he expects him to have the leg up but if he keeps this lingering injury issue Myers will be up to play center after the all star break.

Yep, Frenchy isn't going anywhere, so all we need now is Croyle...errr Cain to stay injured so we can justify bringing up a guy who is the best prospect we have in our system. Brilliant.

Maybe Dayton could talk to one of Giavotella's uncles and Cain could just "disappear" and we could have reason to bring Myers up., problem solved, amirite. Or maybe he could just do his job and put the best players on the field.

It sounds like we are waiting for Cain because he is more natural at center than Myers, but if he is too slow to heal it goes to Myers since we clearly need to upgrade that spot. Then if Frenchy could be traded Cain eventually comes up and Myers moves to center.

6 of our next 7 opponent starters are lefties so that's why if it's Myers he will be after the all-star break which also starts a 10 game home streak. That would be a good time to bring him and build upon interest generated by the all-star game and hopefully pack the stands with Myers who everyone would be pumped for. Guy absolutely killing the ball right now.

From college forward, bats play. Period. Gloves are ancillary.

Every single day that Myers isn't in KC at this point is a testament to DM's level of stupidity.

frenchy is the 2nd worst RF in the AL at the moment. obp, slug and ops.. all of 'em he's 2nd worst. and yet, because of dayton's incredulous manlove, he's blocking the top hitting prospect in the minors. really have to see it to believe it.
