#6 we haven't started down the road of ACTUAL Flash apps... which iMobileCinema does NOT play. (although for alot of flash apps I can see that downloading an app from the app store is just the same... for some not so, but alot)
If you read through the thread, you'll see that I've been one of the harshest critics of the iPad. I'm hardly defending the device. I'm just trying to point out what I see as gross over-exaggeration of the issue by you.

And iMobileCinema is anything from buggy. Never had a single crash.

And all mobile devices are going to be limited on Flash capabilities. The future EVO included. Due to the lack of mouse input and defined pointer. Stuff like mouse-over and hover don't work. Lots of sites depend on that input.

My impressions so far:

Feels bulky in my hands. To be able to type on the touch keyboard while holding it was annoying.

Weight. Felt heavy in my hands. I was surprised at how weighted it felt in my hands. Would not want to hold this for long periods of time.

WiFi. Thought it sucked and had problems loading pages. Thought I was using edge network to load pages.

Thoughts? Did not like it at all. Felt heavy in my hands and using the keyboard while holding the iPad just seemed awkard and cumbersome. Also, no forward facing camera. I just do not get how the iPad does not have one. skype, IM's, etc. Big miss by not having one. A USB port would solve this, but it doesn't even have that. Definitely expect future versions of the iPad to include this and items missing from it. I see absolutely no reason to buy this. My old netbook takes care of everything, and then some that the iPad is suppose to accomplish. As of now, it's just not for me.

Reading thousand page PDFs for grad school is a pain in the ass on me netbook (that damn keyboard is always in the way and it's difficult to get into a comfortable position to read where you can still see the screen), but reading it on an iPad is a million times easier. My netbook has HDMI out and doubles as an HTPC, which is something my iPad won't be doing (even though it probably could with the right adapter, it won't do it as well as the netbook can). The battery on the iPad lasts longer than my netbook's battery (which still lasts a respectable 4.5 hours).
HERE is where the iPad has CURRENT usability, if that is the PRIMARY reason you bought it... fair play.

Yeah, I read a lot of PDF's too, I just rotate them counterclockwise and read them on my netbook like a ebook reader.

I agree. Laying it flat helps a lot.

I don't find it heavy at all, but I could see a big issue with future tablet devices because they are much heavier than the iPad.

Might depend on where you use it. I have not had a problem loading pages or getting any signal at home or here on the KU campus (where I am currently).

It is better for class than my net book was. Surfing the Internet, easy to type on to take notes, pdf reader, etc. All things I could do on my net book, too, but this does it better for my needs.

possibly, I'm not sure, the iphone never really addressed some of its biggest failings... (multitasking???)

EDIT: I'm sure they will be better, but I imagine only marginally so... and not as functional as other tablet devices available --- just like the new Android 2.1 phones are more usable than the Iphone

My only problem is that it doesn't support use of a stylus, that would be a HUGE boon for note taking in my opinion (at least for engineering... some shite is just hard to type!)

Just a side note, I HATE the Iphone OS and am not sold on Android as anything more than a phone OS... Win7 seems like a bit of overkill for a tablet PC... I am eager to see if Chrome OS fills the void..

fyi... Chrome OS will have Flash built in, no need to d/l anything.

All evidence points to OS 4.0 (due very soon) addressing this.

WE won't know until Thursday afternoon but everything is pointing to multitasking being a reality with 4.0. well, at least for the apps that Apples says you can use multitasking with.

I ****ing love my Macbook Pro. I don't know that I could ever go back to using Windows exclusively ever again.

But, I hate the way the iPod/iPhone/iPad architecture is headed. I'm note a DRM stoner by any means - I pay for my music, TV shows, and movies. But I hate the closed set up of new Apple products. With the iPod/iPhone, I can somewhat accept it. But as you get closer to a computer application, that's a no go for me. I want to be able to go to a third party and say, "hey, I like that browser more than the one I have. Let's try it out.", without worrying about whether Apple declares it usable.

On my Macbook, I'm able to use alpha, beta, or pro software from anyone that wishes to develop. I'm so tempted to buy, but I'm going to let the technology mature and see what competitors come out with.

great, how many YEARS after other phones already did though?

WebOS(PalmPre) is almost a year old now.. Android? etc etc

IF OS4.0 does allow multitasking.. they still haven't solved the reason they disallowed it in the first place.. underpowered hardware...
